KENNESAW, Ga. (AP) -- Cobb County police are investigating after a builder was shot and killed by a homeowner in a subdivision in Kennesaw.
Police say the builder is identified as Brian Gregory Epp. Investigators say he got into a dispute with a new homeowner at Carriage Gates subdivision and that the homeowner shot Epp.
The builder died at the scene.
The homeowner told investigators he shot in self defense. No charges have been filed. Police have not released the name of the homeowner.
I can see this happening.
Building a home can be very stressful.
I wish I could should my builder. I had to sue him instead.
Especially when the contractor is doing a half-assed job and doesn't feel like building according to the drawings, which happens A LOT.
There are a few "Building Contractors" in our area that are probably close to ending up shot. It is amazing how much they get away with when bilking customers.
Lazy bastards, the lot of them.
Homebuilders are an extremely scummy group of people. Especially in NJ.
Anyone who has ever remodeled a house can see this happening :~D
I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.
Building a new home can be a pain in the ass. But it is no reason to carry out what you wish you could do to your builder on several occassions. We built a new house this year and oh boy I though I was going to have a stroke a few time after blowing my stack.
We had a good builder for both our Adventures in Construction . . . but we also hired an architect and paid him ten percent of the contract price to watch the builder. Best money we ever spent. It kept friction to a minimum, the house was built under budget and quite well (though about 3 weeks late so we had to stay in my parents' basement, whatever), and everybody was still friends afterwards.
Is that a definitive decision, or is it that no charges have been filed yet?
It probably would happen more often if the builders showed up for work. - Tom
So I wonder if the libs will start to spin this?
from the comments i'm reading, my family must have found the only honost builder in the country. he's done more than one one house for us, hasn't made any mistakes, made modifications to his design only when requested, finished pretty darn close to on time (within a couple weeks), and the few things that his subcontractors messed up, he made sure they came out and fixed it.
Oh our architect was much worse than the builders :~D
We had four total, contractors, I think.... and the last one was really good :~D
My parents' builder held them up forever when they built a house 10 years ago (he was telling them one thing about the completion schedule, while at the same time sending his subs off to finish several homes he was building on spec and wanted to get sold). They sold their place, moved to a tiny apartment, and put everything in storage based on his assurances, and of course their house took forever to finish because his crews were somewhere else. My mother finally told him they were moving in without a CO (she did), so he had darn well better get his workers on site and get the place finished. He finally did.
Especially when the contractor is doing a half-assed job and doesn't feel like building according to the drawings,Just imagine how bad it would be if you'd gone with the lowest bid.
A "half-assed job" can be a matter of opinion. Not building to specs is when you hold back payment.
