December 3, 2005 -- The National Rifle Association was in Mayor Bloomberg's cross hairs yesterday as he blasted the group for putting guns ahead of the lives of cops and children. "Fundamentally, if you want to solve the problem [of gun violence] it's up to Congress, and Congress keeps getting rolled by the NRA," the mayor said during his weekly WABC radio show.
"This is plain and simple, the NRA versus the lives of our children and our police officers," he declared.
Bloomberg described gun violence as a national issue after telling listeners he had earlier visited the 70th Precinct station house in Brooklyn and comrades of Officer Dillon Stewart, who was slain by a shot through the heart.
"I think it's really despicable for the mayor to try and inject politics into this very sad and tragic event," said NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam.
"Our membership rolls are full of active and retired law-enforcement and military officers," the spokesman said. "It is not appropriate to talk about politics at this time. At this point in time our thoughts and prayers are with the slain police officer's family."
The Mayor's Office had no immediate reply to the NRA spokesman's comments.

Yeah - and Mike has done a lot towards taking drugs out of the hands of criminals. What makes him think that guns being illegal is going to "take them off the street." Once he cleans up the drug culture and we see no more drugs on the streets we'll talk about gun laws.

Laws written on paper don't stop criminals....... start punishing your voter base with prison or worse vs pandering to em ya loser.
When a liberal elected official fails in the performance of his duty, his first act is to look for a convenient conservative to blame.
What a fine crop of Republicans. Arnold takes a left-wing lesbian activist as his COS and Bloomberg takes on the NRA. I won't even detail the ditch driving the White House routinely does, but it all points to a real quandry in the Republican Party.

Cop-slay suspect just took a napA day after proclaiming his innocence in a jailhouse interview, a Brooklyn man was indicted on Thursday on charges he killed one police officer and wounded another in separate shootings within 10 days of each other.
Police officials said a search of the suspect’s car produced more than 50 small bags of marijuana and shell casings that matched the alleged murder weapon, a 9mm handgun reported stolen in Florida in 1999. They also said that during questioning the suspect admitted being at the scene of the shooting.

How does he blame the NRA, when the New York's laws have nothing to do with the vision the NRA has for America? It's like blaming the Pope for whatever is wrong with Las Vegas.

Yeah - good ol' Mike has made New York City a safer place to be. I worry everyday that some Winston smoker is going to kill me for the $15 that I have in my pocket.
