27 years ago when I was in high school we had one guy who wore camo every day . . . .with a swastika armband . . . . .and whispered (rather than use full voice) for 2 months. He also had a hitlist (he claimed) of 10 or 12 people he was going to eliminate . . . .
Funny how no one ever said a thing about him, or sent him home , or made him seek treatment . . . .

Like the article said, this isn't about the military, this is about gang colors. Even though the connection to gangs seems to be tenuous at best, I believe it is the schools right and responsibility to have rules and enforce them. Kids do not have the right to wear whatever they want to school. If it is disruptive (like the penis costume last month), it shouldn't be allowed.

Banning camo is a liberal political act, intended to disparage and marginalize the military.

Her mother's defense is that everyone was wearing it. Perhaps the mother is an inner teen too.

Neal Boortz has the right solution.
Change your lifestyle and financials.
Home school or enroll your kids in private school.
Blueflag's adaptation -- teach your kids to be fully aware of what public schools are doing and why -- what's right and wrong about it; how to deal with it; what to fight/accept -- battles and wars. My kids are remarkably aware of what "PC" is, why bureaucrats are 'cowards'. It's another part of being in the world, and not of the world. They realize that the idiocy of school PC policy enforcement pales in the shadow of corporate EEOC/diversity policies.

Dang, that Army gang has ruined it for us all, /s. Tomorrow, she should show up in full Goth garb.

Lowell High Headmaster Bill Samaras said military gear is associated with some local gangs This is rather vague. If gangs were doing precisely what she was doing in order to scream "gang," her garb would not be wise. But from this description we can't tell.

A lot of school officials wear suits. Suits associated with gangsters. Ban the school officials.

I'm with the scholl on this. They have a right, if not
a duty to have an acceptable dress code for schools
that teach minors. A Schools' first priorty is
to maintain a proper and safe enviornment for
educating their charges. And it is every students
first responsability to comport themselves in a
civil and acceptable manner, abd be open to
instruction.

I think she looks great, said her mother, Bette Lewis, who bought her the outfit. She always looks nice. She always matches everything. Egads mother!!!
Mixing deep forest camo with urban city camo...yikes!!!
Get thee to a fashion makeover.... ;)

Poor girl, spending her life with a name like "Shilo." No wonder she's a tacky dresser.

I wonder if she could get away with Marine digital or Army ACU type camo? Exactly what is proscribed? Anything the school doesn't like?

It's the gang relation. If it's controversial or if it has gang associations, we won't have it, Samaras said.
Gang related????????
Controversial????

Lowell High Headmaster Bill Samaras said military gear is associated with some local gangs, and could disrupt students' safety and their learning environment. Paraniod, bed wetting liberals disrupt students' safety and their learning environment.
If she were holding a photo of a dead troop to protest the war durimg school, the Headmaster would think camo is kewl.

This is funny. I have a friend (public school teacher) that used to pretend to mark his students absent when the boys wore cammo during hunting season...claimed he couldn't see them.;o) The whole class got a kick out of it.

If she just had a jacket, or if she just had a T-shirt, we would ask her to put the jacket away or cover the shirt. We don't want to send students home. But she was covered head to foot, Jack said. No face paint? Can't be too serious.
Notice how everything depends on the situation or the school. No hard and fast rules.
One of the biggest reasons why the kid is in a parochial school.

Jack said the school applies the policy to everyone, but
admitted some camouflaged students meld into the scenery. I don't know Jack, but aren't people wearing camouflage
supposed to meld into the scenery ?
