Earthquakes generate 80% S waves and 20% P waves (compression waves).

Nuclear tests underground tend to generate mostly P waves...though this can be shielded somewhat by large land masses, shaped explosion caverns, and proximity to a large body of water (e.g. a river deep inside a large land mass).

http://earthquake.usgs.gov/recenteqsww/Quakes/usfwbf.htm

Parameters of this seismic event: Nst= 68, Nph= 68, Dmin=770.5 km, Rmss=0.84 sec, Gp= 65°,

M-type=body magnitude (Mb)

What does M-type "body" mean? Body (Mb) 4-7 16-100 degrees (only deep earthquakes) Based on the amplitude of P body-waves. This scale is most appropriate for deep-focus earthquakes.

When do we have P body waves at shallow depths?

Answer: Nuclear tests

If you'll compare the graphs in post #66 above to the top right portion of the actual seismogram from the Chinese seismic event this morning (post #67), you'll easily see that the Chinese event has a pattern that more closely matches the Indian nuclear test of 1998 than the typical pattern of an earthquake.

At this point, I'd say that there is a 40% chance or better that the seismic event in question was an actual nuclear test in China.

Does not have the sharp first spike of a nuke.

Could it be there is another mega-dam planned? I don't have knowledge of the geography there but if it is in a plains or valley area...

The underreporting of deaths would make perfect sense if it indeed were a nuke detonated for that purpose....the few deaths wouln't create a huge uproar (the ChiComs would hope), just a worthless UN resolution and a couple of blips on the news radar....

"Does not have the sharp first spike of a nuke."

Actually, it does. The pattern closely resembles a double blast (the first, a smaller bang, the second, closely timed, but larger).

Too deep for construction.

Would the ChiComs detonate a nuclear bomb close enough to one of their own cities to destroy it? I know they are cold but..........

Perhaps your right, in that the initial and larger intensity osciliations where a neuky, and it triggered a minor quake in the later partion of the graph. Very wild guess.

The "shakes" in the graphs are different.

Two major events so close together. This, and the one which took place on November 13, in the Heilongjiang Province, near Harbin City, 100 tons of chemicals flowed into the Songhua River. Do I think there's a connection? Not necessarily: The provinces are not near each other.

Heck, the whole graph is different, now. The Chinese site auto-updated that gif file to the next day. The event in question is no longer displayed.

What kind of waves are being displayed in the updated version?
