FALMOUTH - A man in jail awaiting trial on rape and assault charges offered to pay $3,000 to a state trooper posing as a hit man to kill two women, according to court records. Antonio T. Ferreira, 42, of Falmouth wanted the woman who accused him of rape killed so she couldn't testify against him, according to court records.

Ferreira, who is originally from Brazil, may be in the country illegally and his passport must be surrendered if he makes bail, according to court records. He was being held on $50,000 cash bail on the rape and assault charges, but that was increased after the new charges were added. He was back in court briefly yesterday for a previously scheduled probable cause hearing on the rape charges, but that hearing has been continued to Dec. 14.

$3,000 for a hit? Not only stupid, but a cheap bastard, too.

I'll bet he's always going for those Nigerian Funds Account scams.

This has to be in the stupid criminal's Hall of Fame. I can't believe he pleaded innocent! Does his attorney think he can prove entrapment?!

I'm sure that in his native Brazil a hit can easily be bought from a policeman for $3,000 American. Watch the film Cidade do Deus.

This Brazilian is obviously innocent by reason of insanity as no one, not even the dumbest 5 year-old who watches TV, believes that you can get a hit contract on two people for $5000.

That amount could barely get you a slashed tire!

One sees so many of these stories, i.e., some slob trying to arrange a hit and finds himself or herself talking to a police officer, that you wonder whether there really are authentic hit men out there. Probably, I guess, but there can't be too many and they certainly don't make themselves available to Joe Blow.
