Of War, Peace and Other Pastimes
My own thoughts... | 11/01/2005 | DoughtyOne

The Republican Party has had over ten years to get it's act together, after taking control of the House and the Senate of the United States.  For around five years, Congress had to combat what some people might term 'a mafiosa type individual' serving as Commander in Chief.  Whether you or others agree with that, the fact is that the Congress had it's hands full countering the incumbent president.  Still, come victories were won.

Investigations came and investigations went.  At least some of them were so poorly run, that people on the street knew more about the facts of the cases than the Senators and some of their investigative agents.  Kenneth Star was destined to allow someone to get away with the murder of Vince Foster.  Other investigative bodies allowed money funneled from high up Chinese leaders to find it's way into the Democrats coffers.  Investigations into that found over 100 asian nationals fleeing our country to avoid being called as witnesses.  Chinese spies operated freely within the White House and our national security agencies.  Payoffs in the form of cattle futures, land flips, witness tampering, intimidation of witnesses, obstruction of justice, perjury and a myriad of other criminal activities were allowed to slip by.  Our Congress, the U.S. Justice Department and leading law enforcement agencies allowed criminals to avoid criminal prosecution and conviction.  That is just plain historical fact.

In the year 2001, some of us hoped that a new occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue might instruct his Justice Department to clean house.  It didn't happen.  Instead we were told that it was best to get on with the business of the nation.  Nothing would be served by digging dirt any longer.

Some of us found that to be almost unbearable.  We spoke out against this turn of events.  Then we were told by many on our own side, that this was best.  We should grow up and realize what was in the best interest of the nation.  Those of us who objected pretty much bought off on that.  We realized that it wasn't going to happen, so we let it slide.  Damn us to hell, that we did.

In the mid 1990s James Carville declared war on conservative USA.  In 2001, we surrendered.  Oh it wasn't parsed that way.  It was said that we were going to let bygones be bygones in an effort to get things moving.  And we did get things moving.  We starting a spending spree that has been unparalleled in modern times.  We pulled moves that only a Democrat could love.  We doubled spending on education ( a department that most of us realized should be abolished) and came up with our own 'Great Society' program to give medicine to our nations seniors.

In short, we not only didn't go after the criminals amongst our national leaders (and more importantly our former leaders) but we also caved on concepts that stood for what we were.  We saw that our 600 ship NAVY had been halved and we accepted it.  We saw that China had obtained some of our most sensitive national security secrets, and we accepted it.  We realized that we had digressed to a one theater level of military preparedness, and pronounced that was okay with us.

What I seek to show here is that a majority status didn't not ensure us of righting our ship of state.  Instead it allowed us to implement a number of items only a Democrat could covet.  Nobody objected, or if they did they were told that it was they who were aiding the Democrats, and they should just shut up.

It has been disconcerting to watch this meltdown in the name of conservatism.  But by the grace of God, we were able to block an unknown from entering the SCOTUS, nobody knowing which way the wind would blow this chaff of wheat.  That has been one of the small victories in a vast domestic pond of failures.

It should be said that the war in Iraq has been one shining example of the projection we should have been known for across the board.  I only wish the backbone that drove it, had been able to recognize much of anything else it should have.

I seldom come on this forum to talk like this.  In most instances I find it counterproductive.  Not many are going to accept the truth for what it is.  They have a vested interest in seeing things in a different light.  What could be more important than the sanctity of our nation, I don't fully know, but I have been assured, many do.

Into this sea of gripes, I must make one observation tonight.  Senator Bill Frist just about summed it as best as anyone could today.  He said, (paraphrased) "Due to events of this day, I can no longer trust Senator Reid."  You see folks, I have to tell you.  We have been far too trusting.  We have been far to congenial.  We have been far too willing to accept left wing achievements that have been accomplished by our side of the isle.  You see folks, no matter what we did in the interest of THE LEFT, it bought us nothing.  And you knew it would.

When we caved on criminality from the last administration, it allowed the left and the media to focus their sights on any hiccup on the right and say, "Aha!  You're evil crooks."  Did anyone for one moment think the left would appreciate our congeniality, or reciprocate?

Carville and company declared war on us.  They NEVER declared a ceasefire.  We did.  What I'd like to know, is why?  Why in the sam hell did our leadership decide to play fooseball, when the left was clearly going to play hardball?

We allow our own to act like John McCain.  We allow the opposition to act like Harry Reid.  We are the leadership, and we allow investigations into issues like WMDs in Iraq.  The whole world thought there were WMDs in Iraq, but our Republican leadership (or what passes for one), was somehow convinced we should investigate the Bush White House.  Goodness!

Well, here we are in ceasefire mode.  We don't take it to the left.  We don't pass conservative legislation.  We all too frequently allow Democrat agenda to run the land.

There's two and one half more years to the Bush Presidency.  Is there a think tank anywhere that might advise Bush, Frist, Hastert and company on how to wage war on the communist and terrorist sympathizers amongst us?  Not from what I've seen.  This is a head-hanging day in America.  The home team didn't show up.  Frist was just shocked.

Will it?  After five and a half years, I have very little hope that it will.  We won't have the majority forever.  What an opportunity lost this has been.  Well, I must couch that, some fantastic opportunities have certainly fallen in the Democrat's lap.  They hustled.  We didn't.

Our borders remain open.  Our purses do too.  Our culture is being dismantled in the interest of diversity.  Christians are targeted as the one group that it's okay to take pot shots at.

We live in a society in which fewer and few people take responsibility for their own actions.  And now it often feels as if the party I grew up in has adopted that model as it's own.

Sobering thoughts DoughtyOne. We've got work to do and
job #1 is supporting our Troops and their mission.
Job #2 is making sure our elected representatives support our Troops and their mission.
Job # 3 is publicly kicking the collective @sses of all those who don't support our Troops and their mission. Without these 3 things none of the others matter. JMHO.

I was just talking to a friend today about exactly this. I am so frustrated. It's difficult for me to not get down about it.

Thanks for saying it. Now what can we do about it?

Have you given any thought to how much support those troops will get if the Republicans lose the House and or the Senate?

Hastert and Frist seem to be doing their damndest to make that happen.

That's pretty well going to take a dump on your number 1, 2 and 3 concerns.

What can be done about it? Short of doing an about face, standing up for conservative principles and giving as good as we get, there's nothing that can be done.

The sad fact is that the R.P. has traveled far left of center and doesn't seem to be able to realize it. If it can't, then it sure won't implement corrective measures.

I find it rather sad that on a forum like this, hardly anyone thinks this topic merits discussion. And that's the state of things in conservatism today. It just about doesn't exist any longer.

A few people remember what conservatism used to stand for. Now there's a recipe for advancing the values of our founding fathers.

And Tom Delay assures us there is NO fat in the budget, imagine what a victory that is for fiscal conservatism.

That's how I see it, too.

I thought Clinton was the President with the Mafia connections. The liberals get everything backwards.

I see it as the democrats being the new socialist party, the republican party acting like the democrats, and we need a new party, a conservative one based upon the founding fathers principles. Definately not a quick fix, but one that needs to be implimented.

We need a new party.
