Homosexual party sunk by Wilma? Fantasy Fest had been reset for Wednesday, but 'debauchery' could be canceled

Despite the attempt to dodge the impact of Hurricane Wilma by changing the dates for the annual Fantasy Fest, the storm has deluged any hopes for the homosexual debauchery party this week, and could force a complete cancellation.

"We know Fantasy Fest is on everyone's mind," City Commissioner Bill Verge said at a news conference this afternoon. "We have a problem with the infrastructure. We will have to work together. There is still tons and tons of debris."

According to the Key West Citizen, Commissioner Mark Rossi estimated 70 percent of the island was under water during the peak flooding, with thousands of homes suffering flood damage.

He estimated damage to Key West to be in the millions of dollars.

"I have been here a longtime and this was the big daddy of them all," Rossi told the paper.

The event, which was originally slated to begin last week, was delayed until this week to try to escape Wilma's fury.

For now, Fantasy Fest officials are holding out hope the celebration which draws upward of 60,000 visitors to the Florida Keys will still take place.

"We are closely assessing the damage to the infrastructure," says a message on the festival's website. "The new date will be announced as soon as we are certain our city will be able to appropriately and safely service our residents and guests. We are working hard to bring you a better-than-ever freaky festival this year, so please remain patient as we hurdle this road block!"

For those not familiar with the perennial party in the week leading up to Halloween, the Associated Press describes it this way:

Fantasy Fest, which began in 1979 as a small food fair and parade, is a huge event in the nation's gay community (not that there aren't plenty of straights who also come for the debauchery). There are AIDS fundraisers, drag queen beauty contests, costume parties, lots of drinking and women wearing nothing but paint from the waist up. As WorldNetDaily previously reported, another homosexual festival, Southern Decadence, was postponed in August as Hurricane Katrina approached New Orleans.

The catastrophic damage left by Katrina did not stop homosexuals from partying, as less than a week after the disaster, as thousands of people were suffering from homelessness and hunger in their flooded city, a group of "gays" marched down Bourbon Street in the Big Easy. A few days later, other homosexuals gathered in Lafayette, La., to hold what they called the Southern Decadence Parade in Exile.

At least one state senator has attributed the this year's hurricane devastation to the hand of God punishing the U.S. for its national breaking of biblical laws.

"America has been moving away from God," said Alabama Sen. Hank Erwin, R-Montevallo. "The Lord is sending appeals to us. As harsh as it may sound, those hurricanes do say that God is real, and we have to realize sin has consequences."

So why was the fishing village of Everglades City that has no festival and, I strongly suspect, no gay residents, damaged far worse than Key West?

God's has poor aim?

Wow. A God that devastates several regions just to punish some sissy-boys that want to have a party while allowing innocents to suffer and die horrible deaths on a daily basis.

Now that's a diety that I can get behind.

Well, we're having cold, driving rain in DC today. It just happens to be the day of the annual "High Heel Race". (Yes, drag queens racing down the street.)

The number of large earthquakes in the San Franscisco area dropped sharply after it became the center of US gay culture, interestingly.

Perhaps you haven't heard about a big flood through which only Noah and his family survived. The flaw in your premise is that people are innocent.

That being said, I don't know that these storms are punishment for some particular sin by God as some contend...we live in a fallen world.

Massachusetts has had beautiful weather for the most part for the past eighteen months. It did snow a lot last March, and May was rainy, but all through 2004 I watched the skies and we had great weather.
