THE PRESIDENT: Please be seated. Thank you. Welcome to the White House. This is the fifth year in a row that it's been my honor to host an Iftaar in the State Dining Room.

Our distinguished guests represent the millions of Muslims that we're proud to call Americans, and many Islamic nations are represented here that America is proud to call friend. We welcome the representatives from many countries with large Muslim populations. I want to thank you all for coming to celebrate an honored tradition of the Muslim faith, and wish you a, "Ramadan Mubarak." I want to thank those in my administration who have joined us. I want to thank the Imam for joining us today, and thank you for leading us in prayer after these short remarks. I want to thank all the ambassadors from the Organization of the Islamic Conference. I welcome other members of the Diplomatic Corps. And I want to thank the Muslim -- American Muslim leaders who are with us today. Thanks for taking time out to celebrate this important dinner.

Ramadan is the holiest time of the Muslim year. According to Islamic teaching, this month commemorates the revelation of God's word to the Prophet Muhammad in the form of the Koran. For more than a billion Muslims, Ramadan is a time of heartfelt prayer and togetherness. It is a time of fasting and personal sacrifice. It's a time to give thanks for God's blessings through works of charity.

One Muslim leader said: "It's a national and Islamic obligation to assist one's neighbors when they are in need." The American people saw that spirit as we recovered from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The world sees that spirit, that compassion of Islam, through the countless acts of kindness following the recent

And for the first time in our nation's history, we have added a Koran to the White House Library. (Applause.)

And I'm just sure the our Muslim friends will have the KJV available in their libraries. /s

Iftar? Wasn't that the worst movie ever made starring Dustin Hoffman and George Beatty?

Bush is a good man and, I'm sure, well meaning but he doesn't grasp the fact that this is a Holy War we are engaged in. I realize he cannot overtly condemn all Islam but he could have, at the least, done and said nothing.

Should never host these moon-god cultists. Best if the President never says another word referencing Islam as the Religion of Peace or any other such nonsense.

You beat me to it. But anyway,....

It was Ishtar (as in Knish) and it was WARREN Beatty (not that it really matters).

Ishtar was so bad,....(How bad was it?) Ishtar was so bad, it was almost good.

He needs to chat with Tony Blair, who has directly and very recently said that we are fighting a religious war against a 7th mentality. GWB would do well to understand the situation and communicate it to America, instead of playing Neville Chamberlain with an implacable foe (islam).

The reason why we're winning is because he realizes it isn't a Holy War.

Bush is President of ALL THE PEOPLE. He can't insult citizens who are of a different faith. Nobody seemed to have any problem with him attending a Catholic service - what is the difference. America is made up of all faiths.

Who cares if they have a KJV or not ..??

We have the luxury of being slightly slanted in our view - but I don't believe the President has that luxury. And .. he's not appeasing them like the Clintons did. This dinner is showing them that he honors their faith - as long as they are not using that faith to harm America.

Iftaar Dinner?

WTF was he thinking?

And a Koran in the White House LIbrary?
They'll have to hire the same cleaning crew that fumigated the place after the Clintons left!

I appreciate those of you here who have joined these scholars in rejecting violent extremists

At least he is acknowledging that not ALL of those present reject the spread of Islam through terrorism ... or, as they refer to it, "In the way of the prophet".

Then it would be better if he did or said nothing. In this instance he could fall back on seperation of church and state.

It looks as if you don't grasp it either. I guess it will take a few attacks here at home and a tepid reaction from the Muslim community to convince you.

So he puts his job of being politically correct above service and obedience to his God?

He insinuates that Muslims and Christians worship the same God - this is patently false, and I pray that he will repent of it.
