Words. Fail. Me.

And, clearly, her. Or perhaps she fails words?

Yawn...Big deal. I know people who are absolutely brilliant thinkers and yet can't write. I know a few fantastic writers who are dumber than rocks.

Posted on October 12th, 2005 at 2:11 pm. About 'Miers: Second Runner Up?'.

Did everyone hear this on Rush?

We need rebirth of the American tradition of leadership at every level of government and in private life as well. The United States of America is unique in world history because it has a genius for leaders–many leaders–on many levels. But, back in 1976, Mr. Carter said, “Trust me.” And a lot of people did. Now, many of those people are out of work. Many have seen their savings eaten away by inflation. Many others on fixed incomes, especially the elderly, have watched helplessly as the cruel tax of inflation wasted away their purchasing power. And, today, a great many who trusted Mr. Carter wonder if we can survive the Carter policies of national defense.

“Trust me” government asks that we concentrate our hopes and dreams on one man; that we trust him to do what’s best for us. My view of government places trust not in one person or one party, but in those values that transcend persons and parties. The trust is where it belongs–in the people. The responsibility to live up to that trust is where it belongs, in their elected leaders. That kind of relationship, between the people and their elected leaders, is a special kind of compact.

This is looking less and less like a Supreme Court nomination every day. It's becoming a circus. One that you feel ever more strongly that you should leave, but can't seem to find the way out.

It's very possible that some of Monica Lewinsky's notes to her Oval Office "soulmate" made more sense and were less gushing than Miers' letters to Bush. This nomination is a joke.

Yikes! After reading your snippet I read the whole article. She wrote that in 1996 ... not that long ago!

I don't think a lot of the Anti-Miers people realize they are displaying EXACTLY what is wrong with the Courts. It is EXACTLY this superficial, arrogant "We know better then everyone else" attitude that is the major reason the Anti-Miers are LOSING this argument. Find it really funny when supposed "Conservatives" who have spent years bashing the "Elitest News Media" suddenly find it their new best friend when it starts saying things it wants to hear.

The Law Guild seems to think it is the MASTER of the people and only it's self-selected 'High Priests' can be allowed to sever as judges. I know this will come as a big shock to the rather pedestrian intellects that populate the legal profession, and the punditry, these days, but the people of this country have neither the need, nor the desire, to be a judicial theocracy. We have NO interest in allowing a self appointed tribe of self anointed"Elites" to use the Courts as the vehicle by which they imposing their minority position emotional whimsies on the rest of us.

On the other hand, being the subject of laughter has worked in President Bush' favor. He not only leaves them laughing , but scratching their numb skulls and wondering, "how'd he do dat?"

Sheesh. As someone who's openly supported this President both here and among friends/family/coworkers, I'm embarrassed by this nomination.

Well lets see...for all you who claim Miers will not be a a Clarence Thomas...

Incoming Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on Sunday had harsh words for Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

When asked to comment on Thomas as a possible replacement for Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Reid told NBC's 'Meet the Press': 'I think that he has been an embarrassment to the Supreme Court.

'I think that his opinions are poorly written. I just don't think that he's done a good job as a Supreme Court justice.'

So, I see a lot of you are graduates of the 'Harry Reid School of Attack'.

Im sure she wrote simple things to Bush, as he isn't the brightest light in the house.

Sir, I don't think you should go to this. You don't have time and it is not important. Let me know. XXXXXXXXXX

Second, SC opinions are not set pieces. The drafts are reviewed, edited, re-edited, circulated among the Justices, discussed, and edited again and again until the meaning of the text matches the Justice's intent.

The criticism is bogus.

Bogus 'noise' from the Washington Compost indeed.

I have evolved. First, I was disappointed in the nomination. Then, I felt sorry for her. Now I just hope she withdraws.

Combined with columns she wrote for an in-house publication while president of the Texas Bar Association -- critics have called them clumsily worded and empty of content -- Miers may be at risk of flunking the writing portion of the Supreme Court confirmation test, according to some opponents.

Some us here at Free Republic were pointing this out almost a full two weeks ago.
