Neal Boortz will discuss the Fair Tax Tonight on Hannity and Colmes.

Posted on 08/02/2005 5:25:26 AM PDT by Man50D

Neal Boortz will be on Hannity & Colmes, Tuesday, 9:00 p.m. EDT, (8:00 p.m. CDT) on Fox News Channel. He and Representative John Linder co-authored The FairTax Book, released today, 2 AUG. Neal is making the rounds. It's been on the Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble Bestseller lists for four weeks---before it got released. Huge momentum here...to contrast, Steve Forbes' Flat Tax book barely broke the 550 mark on Amazon--it's a dead reform policy.

Mr. Boortz's interview will answer a lot of your questions on The FairTax. Please take the time to watch it.

We can make income tax replacement policy a reality.

It's pretty ironic to me.

Hannity competed with Boortz while he (Hannity) was on WGST radio in Atlanta.

Boortz used to make snide comments about Hannity, but Sean eventually had higher ratings.

He Neal, who's your daddy?

Actually, Neal and Sean are real good friends. They even were back when they went head-to-head in the ATL. All that trash talk was for show.

I'm against any tax plan that doesn't also tax the poor.

The poor don't care if the democrats raise taxes because the poor don't pay taxes. If they did, they wouldn't vote democratic.

I like Neal. Listen when I can on the Internet. Neal and Sean were really divided on the Terri Schivo case. If you don't see the things the way Sean aka: Baby Jesus, sees them - then you are on the wrong side of the argument my friend. Neal is a stand up guy.

The Fair Tax (Sales tax) would tax people of all economic classes when they purchase new goods and services. People would receive a monthly rebate on necessities up to the poverty level. No one would have to pay a tax on used items. The end result is all consumer will not be able to avoid paying a tax on new items.

That was years ago, when Neal trashed him.

Neal has three reasons for making up with Sean:

1- They are not in competing markets
2- They are on the same station (in Atlanta)
3- Sean is much more visible, and Neal needs him Sean's show does so well WSB Radio dropped the Braves, who has broadcast Braves games for almost every year since they came to Atlanta.

"I'm against any tax plan that doesn't also tax the poor. "

This plan covers that and also allows for it. People considered poor by some standard have to pay the tax on every purchase just like the rest of us. That way they see and feel what the government is doing to them. Then, if you are below the poverty level, you get a monthly check from the govt. for what is considered the tax you have paid on necessities. The amount of the check is based on your income, how many people in your family and the cost of living.

The beauty of this plan is that it makes the IRS useless. It would be cut back to a large accounting department to keep track of the money. No longer will it have to employ all the data processors, files, computers, form printers, forms, rules and BS.

Boortz used to make snide comments about Hannity, but Sean eventually had higher ratings.

Sean and Hannity's ratings were always within a percentage point or two of each other (I ought to know -- I was GM of the old WIGO at the same time, as was my talk show - I grabbed the fraction of a point that the two couldn't hold on to).

The two were always friendly to me (despite the competition), and as far as I knew, the two were pretty good friends off the air.

Not really. How are you going to compute where somebody is on the poverty scale without an IRS? Somebody has to track if you have income and what it is. The IRS might be smaller, and only interested in the poor and near-poor, but would be that much more onerous because if it. You'll still have a lot of politics involved in setting the rules for meeting the poverty limit.

If the state of New Jersey were to write the rules, there would be location adjustment, and the poverty limit would be 80,000 in Hoboken, and 10,000 in Holmdel. Guess which party rules in each town. The national democrats would do the same thing, but would be more slick about it.

The only way to make this fair is to set the rate, and maybe exempt food & medicine. I really don't care if the rich get a cut on caviar to balance the general lower cost of milk. There's not enough caviar sold to be worry about.

Rebates are just another way for politicians to curry votes by robbing Peter to pay Paul. Let everybody pay, and then should you want to hand out government money, rather than calling it a 'rebate', call it charity, as that is what it is.

Actually everyone (both rich and poor) gets a check for the taxes paid up to the poverty level. The government doesn't get to know how much you make - only the number of people who live in your household. Consider this to be similar to the standard deduction on the income tax.

Actually, every household would get the rebate check. Noone pays taxes on necessities up to the poverty level, except illegals and tourists and others who aren't in the system to receive a rebate check. So not only would illegals get taxed, they would get taxed MORE.

All valid Social Security cardholders who are U.S. residents receive a monthly rebate equivalent to the FairTax paid on essential goods and services, also known as the poverty level expenditures. The rebate is paid in advance, in equal installments each month. The size of the rebate is determined by the Department of Health & Human Services’ poverty level multiplied by the tax rate. This is a well-accepted, long-used poverty-level calculation that includes food, clothing, shelter, transportation, medical care, etc. To view the chart click on http://www.fairtaxvolunteer.org/smart/faq-main.html#3 For other information click on http://www.fairtax.org

A national sales tax gets my vote.

But the IRS has to be eliminated FIRST!

I want a TIVO for Christmas.

Does your husband ever get sick of your demands? Subtle hints are one thing, but outright demands are unbecoming: I want this for my anniversary, I expect this for Christmas, if you don't get me that I'll leave you with the kids ...
