FAIRFAX, Va. -- The mother who allegedly abandoned her toddler on the Capital Beltway then hit him with the car as he tried to get back in was ordered held without bond Friday.

Channoah Alece Green, 22, of Newport News, will stand trial Aug. 26 on felony child endangerment charges. Authorities said that on Tuesday night, Green got angry with her 4-year-old son and left him on the side of the highway near the Lee Highway overpass in Falls Church. She was arrested hours later in Hanover County, about 90 miles south, following a traffic accident there, Virginia State Police said.

Carr gave Green, who is unemployed, the option of defending herself against the charges, hiring counsel or having a public defender appointed to represent her. "I would like for you to appoint me one, please," said Green, who has been in the Fairfax County jail since early Thursday. Her court-appointed counsel could petition the court for her release before her trial date.

I can't imagine that what kind of defense she might have.

Attempted murder, whether they charge it as that or not.

I'll bet dollars to donuts, said "mother" (I use term very loosely) was high as a kite on cocaine, some methamphetamine or other drug.

Can't say that I've never *wanted* to pull over and make the kid walk, but to actually do this is a sign of children having children.

Prayers for that poor kid, who will now grow up to know without a doubt that their mother didn't want them, and that they're not good enough.

Ahhh but the best part is how they caught her. She was in a 2 car accident (her fault) several counties away. After the police questioned her, charged her with the accident, she then divulged that uhm, yeah, maybe I left my kid out on the road, yeah, somewhere, or something like that, yeah.

Where would a four-year-old walk, abandoned hundreds of miles from home?

God, I thought after hearing about that little tortured four-year-old in Oklahoma last week that there might be a respite.

Nope - Susan Smith types are everywhere. I need a license to prove I'm responsible enough to own a gun - but all these b*****s needed was a uterus and they get to be mothers.

Thank God for that couple driving by. He could have been hit by a (another!!) car or kidnapped by someone with malicious intent. I hope he goes to a good home and does not remember this incident when he grows up.

I am not sure she does ANY time! I am afraid, that like sex offenders, parents guilty of child abuse, are regularly dismissed without enough punishment...

Do you get the idea that judges in "family courts" don't want the hassle?

I hear that a humongous percentage of cases are "pled out", and that is the problem...they are pled to slaps on the wrist, and the poor kids are back in the same, abusive, environment....sigh...
