July 7, 2005 — U.S. authorities tell ABC News that British police have recovered two unexploded bombs from the scene of the terror attacks in London.
In addition, British investigators say that parts of timing devices have been recovered from the blast scene that would have been used to detonate an explosive device. This could provide evidence that would help determine who was behind the attacks, sources told ABC News.
There've gotta be clues all over those things.

At a minimum, they will know the type of container (backpack, briefcase, etc.) If the containers are the same, they can scan security cameras in the tube stations and near the bus to ID people carrying similar packages.
My thinking exactly...this is good news in more ways than one! Praise God they didn't blow up, injuring more people, and now we've got some forensic evidence!

I'm also curious about the bomb on the bus. Since the others were all on trains, I'm wondering if that was supposed to be on a train as well, but for some reason the perp was delayed, or redirected, or some such.
I spoke with a colleague this morning who is from London. She said that this morning none of the cell phones were working. Could this be because of the new technology that we have (I assume the British too) where we can put out an EMP of sorts that turns off the cell signals. They spoke of doing that during the conventions at one point.

I heard that on Fox at one point, too. I wondered the same, and wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.
IIRC The bus had been redirected after the first explosion. Perhaps the terrorist went to plan B.
