Splitting Hairs on Coast to Coast
Greg C.

Posted on 06/29/2005 9:47:46 AM PDT by FreedomFighter1013

I am disappointed by the Ron Reagan who seems to have rejected his father's common sense in order to get a job with a liberal news outfit.

An example: today, Ron made several assertions that "9-11 had nothing to do with Iraq." I believe that is up to debate. There may have been no smoking gun link between that one specific action, but it is clear that Sadaam had ties to terrorists. And having ties to and suppport for terrorist organizations including Al Queda suggests that Sadaam had a real influence on Al Queda's effectiveness and ability to mount large scale operations. We all know we live in an interconnected world, support for terrorism is support for terrorism. We needn't split hairs. Sadaam's was a rouge regime, an outlaw in the world community. he impoverished his people for his own sake and was a chief destabilizing influence in this region, is that not enough of a smoking gun?

Even the Clinton Justice Department mentioned OBL's ties to Iraq in the federal indictment.

And the MSM wrote dozens of articles in the 90's about Saddam's relationship with AQ and OBL.

That and so much more are here:

Don't forget the artillery shells filled with sarin gas that were discovered, the nuke bomb making equipment and statements from Saddam's scientists that he planned to restart the nuke program once sanctions were lifted and the UN inspectors left.

Why do you even listen to his dribble. The man is an idiot. I find it hard to believe that he is even from the loins of Ronald Reagan.

It's a glib comparison, but I'm feeling feisty and I'm going to make it: Germany had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor.

But on a more substantive level, I'd say this: after 9/11, the US took the nexus between rogue states, WMDs, and terrorists much more seriously. There was a broad consensus regarding Saddam as a threat. Rather than play the old inspections cat-and-mouse and look foolish (and probably get our troops picked off wherever they were stationed outside of Iraq), we went in.

Was Saddam ever going to cooperate? was he going to "behave?" no.

This is in addition to any specific ties to al-Qaeda. Stephen F. Hayes' book The Connection (I think I have author, and title, right) details this.

Some people want to rehash the decision to go in over and over, and imagine a fantasy world in which Saddam and his citizens all had happy, peaceful lives, and Saddam never had any other ambitions. That world never existed.

I must add, regretfully, that Bush does a pretty poor job of explaining, in my opinion. it hurts me to say it.

Maybe he's more concerned with DOING than TALKING. Which is a welcome change from the '90s and Clinton.

Ron Reagan Jr is a lost cause.

None of these critics who deny the connection between all Islamic terror groups has apparently ever heard of the old Mafia doctrine expounded by R.M. Nixon: plausible deniability.

Someone needs to send that little fairy this info:

Less than two months before 9/11/01, the state-controlled Iraqi newspaper “Al-Nasiriya” carried a column headlined, “American, an Obsession called Osama Bin Ladin.” (July 21, 2001)

In the piece, Baath Party writer Naeem Abd Muhalhal predicted that bin Laden would attack the US “with the seriousness of the Bedouin of the desert about the way he will try to bomb the Pentagon after he destroys the White House.”

The same state-approved column also insisted that bin Laden “will strike America on the arm that is already hurting,” and that the US “will curse the memory of Frank Sinatra every time he hears his songs” – an apparent reference to the Sinatra classic, “New York, New York”. (Link below)

Feel free to use it - no attribution necessary! (I'm not sure if I heard it somewhere else myself. I honestly can't remember.)

Then again, there were some who said FDR let that attack happen, and/or that Bush let 9/11 happen.

such hateful ravings from the tinfoil hat crowd . . .
