What's wrong with the Boy Scouts?
OpinionEditorials.com ^ | June 04, 2005 | Hans Zeiger

The Boy Scouts is not a hate group comparable to Hitler Youth (“brown shirt” has become common epithet against the Scouts) or the Ku Klux Klan, or a militant terrorist corps like the Taliban (as the Philadelphia Daily News editorialized). Neither is it a church (as federal Judge Napoleon Jones defined it) or a public accommodation (as several courts have defined it).

Boy Scouting is a bold resistance to the rising individualism of the age. Scouting teaches self-government, not selfishness. It should come as no surprise that the Boy Scouts are hated by the most vocal of the individualists whose moral agendas have no compatibility with Scouting: atheists and homosexual activists.

A good take on things.

Count yourself as part of the problem! The author of this article know how to fight the culture war - you know how to lose it. The culture war is a a war worth fighting but when you make it about hate, it makes it that much more difficult to win.

I'm sure you can articulate your position without using derogatory terms - pls do so going forward.

But the culture war IS about hate - but you are correct - use of such inflamatory and derrogatory terms such as "faggot" don't help our side.

Homosexual pedophile is a much more accurate and truthful term.

The Boys Scouts are heterosexist God Talk Republicans. That's what makes them Enemy #1 in the eyes of the ACLU and the Left.

The ACLU is what's wrong with the BSA.
It's also what's wrong with the USA.
Start connecting all the dots and marvel at how the enemies of freedom are whittling away at all of our institutions and and traditions. Marvel at how half of our citizens actually hate our country and our President.
Make the connection that the ACLU is bought and paid for by the sponsors of worldwide terrorism.
Ask yourself who's winning.

If you feel any hatred regarding Waco's post, the hatred is yours, projected -- and you likely owe Waco an apology for it.

I agree with your terminology. "Gay" was a useful and pleasant word until it was hijacked.

The ACLU is a greater enemy than the Taliban, I fact I wouldnt be surprised if the ACLU isnt an arm of the Taliban, The ACLU fights Christianity while looking aside as Islam is taught in some of our schools.

Is it any wonder why evil men and women hate the scouts?

Boy Scout Oath or Promise

On my honor, I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

Note that the Boy Scout Oath has traditionally been considered to have three promises. Those three promises are delineated by the semicolons in the Oath, which divide it into three clauses. The three promises of the Scout Oath are, therefore:

* Duty to God and country,
* Duty to other people, and
* Duty to self

DUTY TO GOD AND COUNTRY: Your FAMILY and religious leaders teach you to know and serve God. By following these teachings, you do your duty to God.

Men and women of the past worked to make America great, and many gave their lives for their country. By being a good family member and a good citizen, by working for your country's good and obeying its laws, you do your duty to your country. Obeying the Scout Law means living by its 12 points.

DUTY TO OTHER PEOPLE: Many people need help. A cheery smile and a helping hand make life easier for others. By doing a Good Turn daily and helping when you're needed, you prove yourself a Scout and do your part to make this a better world.

DUTY TO SELF: Keeping yourself physically strong means taking care of your body. Eat the right foods and build your strength. Staying mentally awake means learn all you can, be curious, and ask questions. Being morally straight means to live your life with honesty, to be clean in your speech and actions, and to be a person of strong character.
Boy Scout Law

A Scout is:

* Trustworthy,
* Loyal,
* Helpful,
* Friendly,
* Courteous,
* Kind,
* Obedient,
* Cheerful,
* Thrifty,
* Brave,
* Clean,
* and Reverent.

Boy Scout Motto

Be Prepared!
Boy Scout Slogan

Do a Good Turn Daily!
The Outdoor Code

As an American, I will do my best to -

* Be clean in my outdoor manners
* Be careful with fire
* Be considerate in the outdoors, and
* Be conservation minded.

We had a couple of strange boys in our troop. They were confused and now would be considered "gay". We knew nothing about homosexuality. We were tolerant before the work became political. ACLU is intolerant and ACLU is bad for the USA.

I dont necessarily like the Boy Scouts, but that is a personal reason and a personal experience, not anything they STAND for, which is just fine in my experience as well.......

As an Eagle Scout I would agree that the "intolerence" by the ACLU and other organizations is horrible given the Scouts desire to uphold this creed. In a society that is carelessness (created by the ACLU) about the scouts regularly and selflessly meet the needs of others with out any though of compensation. These sacrifices while small bring out the best in people.

As for allowing homosexual petafiles to hold positions in the troop.. They should NOT be allowed because they would place the scouts in danger. One does not play russian roulette with the safety of a child.
