Rumsfeld warns China on lack of democracy

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld warned on Friday that China's failure to match economic freedoms with democratic reforms could raise tensions and undermine its growing influence in the world.

On way to a regional security conference that is expected to focus on China and North Korea, Rumsfeld drew a stark contrast between China and India, the world's largest democracy, which America is courting as a counter-weight to the communist nation.

"We anticipate that the relationship with India will continue to be strengthened. With respect to China, it's not completely clear which way they are going because you have the tension I characterised between the nature of their political system and the nature of their economic system," he told reporters.

But Rumsfeld also said he is making plans for his first visit to China as Pentagon chief later this year.

Rapidly improving U.S.-India ties are driven largely by relations between the two militaries, while the Pentagon's ties with China's army, badly damaged by the EP-3 surveillance plane incident in April 2001, are just now "evolving again in a way that's appropriate for the times," Rumsfeld said.

He also said the administration was re-examining its policy toward North Korea, which in February announced it possessed nuclear weapons and may be preparing a nuclear weapons test.

Rumsfeld gave no details but another senior U.S. official, asked how much to make of the comment, told Reuters: "A lot."

Remember?

Rummy obviously did not forget.
The FR threads were hot all through the summer of 2001 over that crisis.
Then came 9/11 and everyone forgot about China's act of war against the United States.
The MSM had collective amnesia, and the Red Chinese got a free pass for the last four years.

Looks like they are in the process of 'disgorging' the disinformation the DOD swallowed when Thomas Barnett was running around at the Naval War College teaching his Leftwing version of history according to Strobe Talbott, and Bill Clinton.

I am afraid you are in a lot of trouble. Hide deep inside your bunker and never come out.

lol... did someone forget to tell Rumsfield that China is a Communist country? Perhaps he is confused? Someone should tell him that Communists don't practice democracy.

Barnett believes that a trade deficit in return for borrowed money to defend investors abroad "is a very good deal."

There's nothing quite like a glitzy PowerPoint presentation to hide a faulty premise.

I am starting to get tired of hearing our leaders lecture Chna and Russia about "democracy".

The one good thing about China and (and to a lesser extent Russia) is their people and their leaders are nationalistic.

The U.S. politicians have proven they care nothing about nationalism and the sovereignty of our borders.

Besides, democracy is mob rule. I would rather have far less "democracy" in the United States and a hell of a lot more nationalism and protection of our borders.

It's amazing, actually.
We are not a "democracy."
Our founding fathers warned against one.
Yet, when Marxist/Leninist thought crept into our public schools, all of a sudden kids started being lectured that we are a "democracy" (at about the same time the benefits of the UN were being touted along with anti-Viet Nam war propaganda from intructors).
So, today, calling the USA a "democracy" is de riguer, even though it is not supposed to be one - because the people in leadership today were brainwashed in school over the last four decades.

Rumsfeld is also doing this on the 16th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square massacre, which took place in 1989.

So yeah, it's strange that we are lecturing Marxist/Leninist that they should be more "democratic," when they believe they are.

I did not say that the people of China have total freedom.

Let me point out one thing here. No matter how brutal China was or is to its people, in the event of war, they will fight as tenaciously as any army on earth because the people have pride in their nation, something that is lacking in America since national sovereignty has been tossed over the Rio Grande.

As I sit her and write this, there are 11 illegal aliens in my yard working on a new addition to my home. I did not hire them. The contractor subbed out the framing and roof work to a sub who hired them. This will not happen in China, to their credit. China will not pay millions of people who are in their nation illegally free medical care, free housing, government assistance and give them drivers licenses like America does.

Our leaders our insane. The insanity of the destruction of our national sovereignty is only exceeded by the pathetic apathy of American citizens who sit by and only mildly bitch about it.

It is China who should be lecturing us.

America shoudl not lecture China or Russia about "democracy" until this nation reclaims its own national sovereignty (and that will probably never occur).

In a week or two, the ChiComs will criticize the US, if they can think of something remotely plausible.

Funny.
