President Vicente Fox on Sunday defended his commitment to minorities and human rights on a U.S. radio program, in his first public response to his controversial comment that Mexicans take the U.S. jobs that "not even" blacks want.
U.S. civil rights activist Jesse Jackson pressed the Mexican president for an apology for the remark that has strained already tense relations between U.S. blacks and Hispanics, during an interview on a Chicago gospel station.
"I very much regret the misinterpretation," said Fox, touting laws created under his administration that outlaw discrimination and protect minorities.
Fox met with Jackson behind closed doors on Wednesday in Mexico City after the president's comments about blacks ignited a firestorm of criticism from the black community and angered the U.S. government.

Illegal immigrants USED to work harder than everyone else. Not so the last 10 years. They are so prevalent here in my area, that once they learn the ropes, they disappear more than white people on a job site.

It doesn't matter who the president of Mexico is...it's still the same corrupt government it has always been. Hypocrites that they are, they speak out of both sides of their mouths and they'll rob you blind.
Mexico City has the highest population and the highest smog rating in the world. As some of you have already noted, Mexico (and the rest of the world) thinks we should share all we've got with them so we can become more like them; another Third World Country!
Our doctors GIVE their services to Mexicans but charge us hundreds of thousands of dollars (or our insurance co.) for the same surgery. And, if Mexico should experience a disaster, such as the earthquake that hit Mexico City a number of years ago, it's American rescue teams that run right down there to help and guess who pays for that...

Does "the U.S. jobs that not even blacks want" include the job of Secretary of State as well? Judging from the comments of liberals like Jackson, it seems if a black takes the job of Secretary of State, that`s not good. Judging by the silence of idiots like Jackson and Sharpton, they are happy only when that White House cabinet is pure white, like Bill Clintons, where the only black secretary is the one answering the phone setting up dates with interns.

I hope the two charlatans keep up the attacks on Fox.
There are unintended consequences to this.
It further separates the hispanics from the blacks here in the USA.

Black Americans, take notice: this is what the Left really thinks of us. True, and they have some fellow travelers on this board.

Everything is ok, Jesse has already visited Mexico and been paid off. I am sure he got money or promises of riches and a few Mexican Senoritas who worked in one of the local Brothels. ***Bingo*** Jesse, the shakedown artist, left Mexico a much richer man with a memory of Vicente Fox bent over with his pants down around his ankles.

"My theory is about generalities, not about any particular person" I could also generalize, and say that illegals produce poor quality, substandard unsafe products. I've seen plenty of evidence of that in housing construction. I've witnessed firsthand, Mexican crews using the wrong materials, using improper installation techniques, resulting in potential fire and electrical hazards, on the home being built.
And I challenge you to provide empirical data to the contrary! :^)

Hate to tell Jesse, but that was no apology.

No. They think they'll get fired and turned over to immigration if they don't get to work. If the illegals had legal status, they wouldn't take certain jobs either...

But there is a greater percentage of hispanics who, when the press shuts down head for the bathroom, phone, etc. instead of sticking around to help get it running again. I always hear, "Roberto back to press 5."
You bet. I've watched them swinging hammers to facilitate that press "shut-down".
And yes the new arrivals are more zealous. It does not last too long though, they soon adopt the same slow pace.
But I wonder why just because someone excitedly attacks a job, using the wrong tools, incorrect procedure, and willing to work for table-scraps, they are considered "a good worker" by some.
To: mthom
"That and deporting all illegals that commit crimes" Ummm! Their first act in this country was a crime, they entered illegally. Deport them before they commit another crime.

One of the big reasons NAFTA failed is because most manufacturing went to Asia.
Much cheaper in China then Mexico. Crazy, eh?
