President Vicente Fox on Sunday defended his commitment to minorities and human rights on a U.S. radio program, in his first public response to his controversial comment that Mexicans take the U.S. jobs that "not even" blacks want.
U.S. civil rights activist Jesse Jackson pressed the Mexican president for an apology for the remark that has strained already tense relations between U.S. blacks and Hispanics, during an interview on a Chicago gospel station.
"I very much regret the misinterpretation," said Fox, touting laws created under his administration that outlaw discrimination and protect minorities.
Fox met with Jackson behind closed doors on Wednesday in Mexico City after the president's comments about blacks ignited a firestorm of criticism from the black community and angered the U.S. government.

I wonder how many barrels of Mexico oil Jesse will be getting via shaking down ole Vincente?
Is anything more fun than watching Fox having to answer to the likes of Sharpton and Jackson.
Suddenly, I'm hoping that Fox gets re-elected.
Apologies for the intrepretation, not what was said. (i.e blame the listener.)
Anybody else want to chime in?
It's okay. Bush will believe him and that makes it all right.
I will chime in. I want Vincente to claim responsibility for the lowest in his society attempting to infiltrate our's. They would not be attempting to come into this country if he were making even a meager attemp at rectifying the miserable conditions that the Mexican elite holds it's minorities in. It is time for them to face the French revolution. Let them eat cake. Vincente perhaps it is time for your head to roll!!!
the mexican presidency is limited to one 6 year term.
On one hand, you might say that was smart. On the other hand, 4 would have been a lot smarter.
i agree, it has merits.
one is a "lame duck" day one of the presidency!
"No hay duda de que los mexicanos están haciendo trabajos que ni siquiera los negros quieren hacer"
Less than artful perhaps, but I don't think he was misquoted or misrepresented.
Everything is ok, Jesse has already visited Mexico and been paid off. I am sure he got money or promises of riches and a few Mexican Senoritas who worked in one of the local Brothels.
Vincente Fox is a toad.
Fox could do us all a big favor if he worked to make the lives of the people living in his own country better instead of shipping them northward.
Black Americans, take notice: this is what the Left really thinks of us.
"Vincente Fox is a toad."
Take that back! I resent the disparaging of warty, slimey toads!
Fox is a lefty. Thus he gets a pass from the MSM. Although, he will have to pay a small stipend to the Racist-Reparations crowd.
Most hispanics I know have a much better work ethic than I do.
