Trial of Clinton Crony Hears Accusation That Rosen Lied
NY Sun ^ | May 12, 2005 | Josh Gerstein

LOS ANGELES - As the trial of the top fund-raiser on Senator Clinton's 2000 campaign, David Rosen, opened in federal court here yesterday, a prosecutor accused Mr. Rosen of "deliberately lying" about fund-raising costs to maximize the campaign's financial flexibility in the final weeks before the election.

Mr. Rosen, 40, is facing three felony counts of causing the filing of false campaign finance reports in connection with a celebrity-laden gala fund-raising concert held in Los Angeles on August 12, 2000. He has pleaded not guilty.

In his opening statement, prosecutor Peter Zeidenberg said the $1,000-a-ticket concert came at a critical time for Mrs. Clinton's Senate bid.

"Hillary Clinton's campaign for the U.S. Senate was in every sense entering the stretch run," Mr. Zeidenberg told the jury. "The polls were tight. Money was tight."

Mr. Zeidenberg painted the event as lavish, and he repeatedly dropped the names of stars who attended, such as Cher, Diana Ross, John Travolta, and Jennifer Aniston.

The problem for Mr. Rosen, the prosecutor said, was that the costs of accommodating those celebrities and throwing a massive Hollywood-style party quickly got out of hand.

"You will hear no evidence that Hillary Clinton was involved in this in any way, shape, or form," Mr. Zeidenberg told the jurors. "In fact, it's just the opposite," he said, arguing that her campaign was deceived about the true costs of the gala.

This, coming from the prosecutor, is not very reassuring............

Trial of Clinton Crony...

Crony. I like that. It's not as good as "stooge" or "bag man," but Gerstein gets credit for not referring to Rosen as "Ex-Aide to Former Campaign."

Were you expecting the prosecutor to open his case against Rosen by telling the jury that somebody else did it?

It was, after all, her campaign. The prosecutor doesn't want some juror sitting there thinking, "Hillary did this. This guy is just some stooge. It's not fair. Let's let him off."

Rosen is sitting right there watching all of this. He has to come to believe that he really is facing years in a 10x10 with Bruno, the 300-pound Sex Offender. Kendall is whispering in his ear that he has nothing to worry about; that they are going to get him off. This whole thing is about scaring Rosen enough so that he turns.

I suppose you are correct.....did you noticed that Levin is cooperating?
That was news to me, and will no doubt make
Ma Clinton squirm at her senate desk.

Another, legitimate reason the prosecutor might be taking this approach is that, in all the prior cases involving Clinton accomplices, the defrendants argued the prosecution was a purely political effort to get the Clintons. By so doing, those defendants effectively appealed to pro-Clintonoid sentiments of many jurors. That helped the likes of Susan McDougal win cases they should have lost. This prosecutor appears to be trying to cut off such an argument at its roots. The trial's taking place in LA county and some Clintonoids are likely to be on the jury. Hence, this could be a wise tactic.

If the tactic works, and if Rosen gets convicted, and if he gets an adequte sentence, then he might spill the beans o the Witch. However, I doubt all that will happen, especially the adequate sentence part, because the judge is a rank Clintonoid stooge.

That is a very astute observation, FRiend.
One thing is sure.....the media's rank double standard
with respect to the reporting on Hillary! vs. Tom Delay's "ethics" problems,
must be obvious to anyone with half a functioning brain cell.
