Hillary Campaign Finance Director Indicted

Rosen charged with fudging numbers for 2000 Hollywood fundraiser

JANUARY 7--The finance director for Hillary Clinton's 2000 U.S. Senate campaign was indicted today on federal charges of filing bogus financial reports with the Federal Election Commission.

According to the below indictment, David Rosen reported the false numbers in connection with a "Hollywood tribute" honoring Clinton.

Investigators allege that a "wealthy individual" paid more than $1.1 million to underwrite the Clinton gala and that those payments were delivered through "several corporate entities controlled by him." While that whopping sum should have been reported to the FEC as an "in-kind contribution," prosecutors charge that Rosen covered up the real source of the money, and even caused the creation of a fictitious $200,000 invoice to aid his scheme.

The August 2000 fundraiser was billed as a "Hollywood Tribute to William Jefferson Clinton," though the funds raised went to his wife's campaign kitty. The bash was held as the Brentwood estate of radio mogul Ken Roberts.

While the so-called wealthy individual (referred to only as "C-1") is not named, he is clearly Peter Paul, an Internet entrepreneur who helped organize the bash. Clinton is not mentioned by name in the indictment, instead referred to only as "Senator A."

The fundraiser was largely orchestrated by Aaron Tonken, a notorious L.A. con man who last August was sentenced to five years in prison following a guilty plea to a pair of fraud counts.

The 39-year-old Tonken, who made his living defrauding donors and underwriters of charity events, now resides in the federal lockup in Taft, California, where he is scheduled to remain until April 2009.

When you have as much baggage and dirt all over you, as the Clintoni mob has (especially Bonnie and Clyde) you just cannot hide all of it, no matter how much you lie and cheat to do so.

Adios Hitlery. There is no soap in the world that make YOU clean.

Hi Doug,

Ok this has a date of January according to the sg site.

And the Grand Jury was convened in 2002, with a 03 filing.

What is the disposition of this case?

Was he found guilty? Prison?

This is pretty good ammo for 2008, not that we don't have enough already, that is.

When did she know it, and why wasn't she indicted?

Thanks,
Joe

Before we go nuts counting Hillary out, let's wait for the disposition of the case. Hillary, with the aid of her smear PR cronies, the corrupt MSM, has had a teflon exterior to the extent that none of the things thrown her way have stuck.

We may have high hopes that this will be Hillary's denouement, the reality is that she has more lives than Jason. Until we see the curtain fall on her campaign hopes, she will remain a contender.

And, remember, Dems LOVE rascals and scoundrels.

True enough. However, there's one problem with the usual Hillary defense. It looks like they wired a Democrat to get the goods on Hillary's funny money. Hillary's usual laughable conspiracy theories are about to get even more comical.

He has pleaded not guilty, and I presume they are headed for trial. Aaron Tonken has said that he sat in the back seat of a limo explaining chapter and verse to Hillary about the money being hidden by her campaign director. She has denied that she knew. Had they declared all of the in-kind contribution of Peter Paul, it would have put a squeeze on Hillary's ability to take in money for the Senate race.

Hillary knew. Two witnesses know that she knew. Let's now see where this undercover witness takes us.

Hillary Clinton's Fundraising Troubles Worse Than Tom DeLay's

This week's media attack on Tom DeLay has a top Washington lobbyist telling Newsweek magazine that the Republican House leader "knew everything" about allegedly shady fundraising on DeLay's behalf.

But if the claims of former fundraisers are the standard by which political trouble is measured, Sen. Hillary Clinton's problems are much bigger than DeLay's.

Story Continues Below

For years Jack Abramoff, who is currently the subject of a Justice Department probe, raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for DeLay's political causes and hired DeLay's aides, reports Newsweek. For his part, DeLay and his aides say he knew nothing about the suspicious fundraising.

That doesn't sound nearly as bad as the allegations facing Clinton, whose former finance chairman David Rosen has already been indicted for trying to hide cash from the Federal Election Commission in connection with an Aug. 2000 Hollywood concert fundraiser.

Like Abramoff, who says he's not angry at DeLay, Rosen isn't ready to implicate the former first lady in any crimes - at least not yet.

But unlike the top Republican, the case against Clinton includes not one but two witnesses who say she "knew everything" about what Rosen was doing.

"Hillary Clinton personally called the producer of the concert part of this event," claims Peter Paul, the Hollywood mogul who bankrolled the Aug. 2000 event.

"She asked him to lower the fee that he was charging of $850,000 at my request," he added, in an interview last year with the Fox News Channel. "So I don't understand how she could possibly say that she didn't know."

Lest anyone doubt Mr. Paul's word, there's Aaron Tonken, whose specialty was rounding up stars for charity events in Tinseltown - and who distributed most of the cash Peter Paul used to pay for the Hillary bash.

In his recent book "King of Cons," Tonken describes his sit-down with the former first lady in the backseat of a limo, where he gave her a chapter and verse update on the money her top aide was hiding from the feds.

"I told her about virtually every penny I'd spent on her behalf," Tonken recalled. "I told her about the money and what a pleasure it was to spend it on her candidacy."

Both Tonken and Paul kept meticulous records on the gala Hillary fundraiser - records prosecutors used to indict Mr. Rosen.

Of course, the press has virtually ignored the claims of the two Clinton accusers, while reporting every tidbit of dirt anyone cares to share about DeLay.

Predictably, a handful of elected Republicans have already begun handwringing in public over DeLay's so-called ethical problems - despite the media's egregious double standard that lets Hillary off the hook.

Perhaps they'd do better to call on Democrats to clean up their own glass house and do something about the corruption currently swirling around their likely 2008 presidential nominee.
