Intellectual honesty devolves (Anti-Bush, Anti-Religion, WPost Barf Alert!)
Mercury News (via WCompost Columnist) ^ | 13 April 2005 | Richard Cohen

*snip* It is now clear that in some cases evolution moves with surprising speed.

It is odd to amble around the Galapagos and see the handiwork of evolution and yet at the same time bear in mind that many Americans do not accept evolution at all. It is belittled as a mere ``theory,'' which is a misunderstanding of the scientific term; and even in some places where it is grudgingly accepted, it is supposed to share the curriculum with creationism, as if that -- creation according to the Bible -- is an alternative theory. It is, of course, just a fancy term for the creation according to Genesis, a matter of religious belief and not scientific theory or fact. *snip*

The ongoing fight over evolution is an odd and sad one. There is nothing about Darwinian theory that cannot be ascribed to God. *snip*

19 states are considering proposals that would require schools to question evolution, which is nothing less than proposals to inject religion into the curriculum.

But why stop there? Why not introduce such skepticism into astronomy and have the sun revolve around the Earth or have the Earth stand still?

*snip* Thus, you have political leaders from George Bush on down refusing to say whether they put any stock in evolution or believe, as apparently they think they should, that it is an affront and assault on religion.

Back in 1999, Bush was asked whether he was ``a creationist'' and he responded by not responding: ``I believe children ought to be exposed to different theories about how the world started.'' In other words, it's all the same: evolution, creationism and maybe something else from another religious tradition.

This proves you can go to Yale and learn nothing -- not about evolution, mind you, but about intellectual integrity.

No, Senor Cohen, this article proves that you and your handlers at the WPost find something deeply threatening about folks like me, and that you're willing to be intellectually dishonest in propgandizing about us. The facts are plain: micro evolution is accepted.

Macro evolution, however, is full of 'holes'? No ... more like deep rents in the fabric of space-time ...; but woe unto the career of any mainstream university scientist who dares raise his head (in an intellectually honest manner) over the foxhole edge.

You need to contact one of 'us', Mr. Cohen ... and receive an image from the other side that is untainted by your bigotry --- that is if you can emotionally handle the company. Feel free to contact me ... I will spend time with you - and be intellectually honest.

There is nothing about Darwinian theory that cannot be ascribed to God.

Except the slight detail of how Darwinianism fully nullifies the purpose of the Sacrifice of his Son.

Slight omission there bub ... (but, consistent, and deeply intellectually honest of you).

Go to Yale and learn nothing? Well, then, does apply to the Clintons as well, ay?

Of course, Mr. Cohen knows everything. If you don't believe it, just ask him. He'll tell you.

He also voted for the proverbial "tower of jello" himself, John F. Kerry.

I see no conflict between evolution and Genesis. Adam and Eve were simply the evolute of our species that our Lord endowed with reason.

So did God create Adam and Eve or did he create apes and ask them to create Adam and Eve?

You haven't taken into account the fundamentalists, who insist on what they consider a "literal" interpretation. Any challenge to that is effectively a challenge to their entire belief system, and so they will fight it. For this reason they have developed creationism, which consists of trying to find scientific evidence to support their pre-conceived religious beliefs.

And I'm fine with that, I won't be the one to tell them they are wrong. I just hate that "science" pushes "theory" as absolute.

Never understood the liberal's fascination with Darwinian theory. Put survival of the fittest in full efffect, and the weaklings will be mowing Freeper's lawns.

Not to mention if we are to believe in Darwinian theory to its full extent, we are harming the planet by having Endangered Species Acts. We are subverting evolution, are we not?
