Martin Katz on Terri Schiavo (Rush read it on air in his first segment Tuesday.)
The American Thinker ^ | March 29th, 2005 | Martin Katz

Posted on 03/29/2005 1:20:28 PM PST by rightalien

The essence of the Terri Schiavo case is simple, all ink and hot air to the contrary. We, as a society, the government and people of the United States of

America, have not managed, for whatever reasons, to permit a mother, deluded or not, to put water onto the lips of her dying child, brain dead or not.

Everything else, every legal, moral, theological, constitutional, or philosophical argument, is a sideshow, diverting attention from the essential issue of this case.

We have wounded our national character. By our actions, or inactions, we have placed ourselves one notch less, above the Nazis.

We, as a people, have so shamed ourselves, that we cannot look Mary Schindler, Terri Schiavo's mother, in the eye, and give her one good reason why WE did not allow her to give water to her dying child.

How we came to this shameful point in our national existence is a question that demands examination, and rectification. For our sake.

For Mary Schindler, and her severely impaired child, Terri Schiavo, it is too late. We did not find it in our collective hearts and souls, in our actions, to have mercy on them.

May We, and G_d, forgive us.

Martin Katz

We failed the Clinton impeachment and Elian Gonzales tests and we got 9-11.

We failed the Schiavo case and we will get clobbered worse this time.

Might have something to do with the economy declining.........recession coming.

Greenspan will kill the economy again.

(2005-03-19) -- The National Organization for Women (NOW) today held a jubilant news conference to celebrate the latest advance in women's rights -- the right to have your estranged husband choose to end your life.

"First, it was women's suffrage -- the right to vote -- then abortion, the right to privacy," said an unnamed NOW spokesman. "Finally, a man has led the way in freeing us from the antiquated bigotry that has kept our former husbands from choosing a slow, painful death for us."

The NOW source said the court-ordered removal of Terri Schiavo's feeding tube, based on the testimony of Michael Schiavo alone has "opened a world of opportunities for women to freely die at the hands of the men they love."

"The next time you tell your husband 'I'd rather die than go to that party,' you can rest assured that your words have legal weight and, if the occasion arises, your wishes will be respected," said the NOW source. "What's more, you're free from the worry that your man will be prosecuted for your murder."

Michael Schiavo lives with another woman and their two children. He developed this "backup family" according to his lawyer, "to assuage his eventual grief over the coming loss of Terri -- the woman he loves to death."

Legal experts at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) also praised the "new progressive precedent in contract law."

"The court has affirmed that a verbal contract where the only witness is one of the contracting parties is legally binding even if that witness has already violated a written contract, in this case a marriage license, verbally affirmed before dozens of witnesses," said the ACLU expert. "The bias against known contract-breakers is gone. This also gives a more influential voice before the courts to our nation's incapacitated, comatose and dead citizens. Their wishes can be determined by the words of their beneficiaries without the hassle of documentation or multiple witnesses." --Scrappleface

At the very least, Governor Jeb Bush should respond to Michael Schiavo's explicit public invitation, by showing up unannounced with everyone and everything he needs to make a final and sudden decision on whether he should attempt save Terri's life right now.

I don't know if any other folks here are experiencing it, but I have a real dread of logging onto FR, of seeing that fateful post that the final result in this case is acheived. I have pain in my stomach even now just writing this.

What an abomination. What a horror. What a failing of decency. I feel personally guilty for this. How will I answer when asked "what did you do to prevent it?"

I just looked back at what I had written and realized I couldn't even type her name. Her name is Terri Schiavo, and her blood is on us all.

So what? We want to give parants priority over spouses when it comes to end of life decision making? Pretty radical change. Not biblically supportable either.

What recession???

The economy has peaked.

The business cycle always repeats.

We are at the same stage as we were in 2000.

This time we have a huge double deficit(trade and Federal spending)and record high oil and raw materials prices.

If you remember 1999 and 2000, added employment most always signals the late stages of the cycle.

The stock market is the barometer of the economy.

Technicals indicate the bull market has run out of steam.

I'll bet the recession begins by next summer(2006).

I hope I am wrong.

I have been an eternal optimist since 2001.
