N.Va. Man Admitted Terror Plot, Agent Says
Washington Post ^ | March 2, 2005 | Jerry Markon

Posted on 03/02/2005 6:31:15 PM PST by prairiebreeze

A federal judge denied bail yesterday for an American student charged in an alleged conspiracy to kill President Bush after an FBI agent testified that the man had admitted plotting with al Qaeda to conduct a Sept. 11-style terror attack in the United States. Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, 23, of Falls Church, told FBI agents that he and other members of an al Qaeda cell in Saudi Arabia planned to hijack airplanes overseas and crash them into targets on the East Coast, according to testimony. They also discussed plans to kill members of Congress, blow up ships in U.S. ports and aircraft at U.S. military bases, and free terrorist prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, FBI counterterrorism agent Barry Cole told a federal judge in Alexandria. Abu Ali's attorney called the allegations "preposterous."

Sounds to me like Ali's lawyer knows his client is guilty. The amount of time Ali spent out of the country is significant. He's only 23, yet he spent years in Jordan, he's also got a Jordanian citizenship, but went to a Saudi madrassa here in the US and was arrested in Saudi for having a part in a firefight between al Qaeda and Saudi security.

Did you read about the part where AQ offered him either martyrdom or the opportunity to move back here, marry a Christian woman, assimilate back into society and start a sleeper cell?

Lots of info here that even the ComPost couldn't sweeten up too much.

What does this mean????

From the article:

As convincing as Cole's testimony was to O'Grady, the judge said he was disturbed that a high-ranking FBI official apparently disagreed -- even after Cole had interviewed Abu Ali. O'Grady said he would consider defense motions to reconsider bail because of an e-mail sent by Michael A. Mason, assistant director in charge of the FBI's Washington Field Office. In the May 2004 e-mail to a family representative, filed in court by the defense, Mason wrote that his office, whose agents investigated the case, "has no further interest in Mr. Ali's detention."

Mason "is an individual with supervisory capacity, and I've never seen anything like that," O'Grady said.

O'Grady then grilled Assistant U.S. Attorney David Laufman about the e-mail. Laufman said Mason's views "do not reflect the views of other officials in the FBI and the Department of Justice."

What is this craziness?

Those dumb people are in AMERICA!!

Do Japanese walk around in 'Kimono' or 'hakama haori' when respectfully visiting US courts? Korean women wearing the 'hanbook'? Russians in 'cosak' uniforms? How about Dutch in wooden shoes? Cuban-Americans with a 'sombrero with fruit on the top'?

People in America dress like Americans in public, once they get here. What is the point of coming here if you walk around like it's friggin' Saudi Arabia. This is not Saudi Arabia. Take off the friggin' abayas and burkas and respect our culture for pete sakes!

The way I read it this Mason is sympathetic to N. Virginian muslims and emailed somebody that he didn't think AbuAli was of any futher interest to the investigation.

The defense would use this to try to discredit the prosecutions case if I'm reading it fully.

This is definitely a case to watch closely. I'd even go as far as to predict that it will be more important than either the Bryant or Jackson cases.

The lawyer wants to use this email as grounds to grant bail. Failing that, I'm betting Ali is feeding some bogus info, which is being diligently leaked to and reported by the press so the defense can trumphantly prove it bogus during the trial....and call for a mistrial by bringing the veracity of the genuine info into question.

I can't really say why, but some of the details are setting off flashing red lights and alarm bells. Ali is GUILTY, but will he get off?

Your flashing lights are correct. Look again at the quotes from the mother....he was tortured.

Now look specifically at post 34 at my thread here:

Warning, that thread has about 135 pages of gif files and will be a resource eater....but the info is valuable.
