The way I read it this Mason is sympathetic to N. Virginian muslims and emailed somebody that he didn't think AbuAli was of any futher interest to the investigation.
The defense would use this to try to discredit the prosecutions case if I'm reading it fully.
I read it that way too and am EXTREMELY bothered by that thought.
