There's clearly more behind Terry's case than Michael Schiavo's guilty conscience or greed. There is political clout coming from the euthenasia backers, and I am willing to wager -- sadly -- that the invisible force behind it -- the earthly one, that is -- is the insurance lobby. so much of what is egregious and plainly evil in legislation these days seems to play directly to the interests of insurance companies. Where money is concerned, there are no coincidences.

Terry's case if different. Terry does not have an incurable disease. With life support there is a possibility of her someday getting better. That is far different than someone having a terminal illness and the doctors going through heroic measures to prolong the inevitable, and those measures usually either don't work, or cause another more serious and painful problem.

That wager sounds like a sure bet to me.

And money buys government. How can Americans be sold on the idea that every one of them will eventually be declared unworthy to live according to some govt. rule? Oh, there will be slick spin, but everyone will figure it out sooner or later, when it's their turn, or the turn of a family member. Why, when people realize that sooner or later the government will say, "OK, it's your turn to die now", there could be a real uprising.
The idea never sold in Germany - until the Nazis took all the guns away. Nobody would seriously suggest that all Americans should have their guns taken away.... oops! Some has suggested that? Uh-oh...
