ALBANY, N.Y. A clear majority of Americans believes the nation is ready for a woman in the Oval Office.
A new poll finds more than six in ten believe the country is ready for a female president.
The poll by the Siena College Research Institute, which was sponsored by Hearst newspapers, gives new ammunition to people who believe Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton should run for president.
Eighty-one percent of those surveyed said they would vote for a woman for president and 53 percent think Clinton should try for the job.
On the Republican side, 42 percent of voters said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice should run for the White House, while 33 percent named North Carolina Senator Elizabeth Dole.
The pollsters found about 60 percent of voters said they expect a woman to be the Democrats' nominee for president in 2008.
Moanica showed up for duty - but wasn't she under aged?
If we're going to have a woman president, I hope she's at least really really hot.
they didn't poll me
Barf alert
I hope at least she's really a woman. That might disqualify Senator Clinton.
Sheesh. Is this poll slanted or what?
Margret Chase Smith would still make a good president... too bad she is dead.
This is why Hillary is such a deadly danger in '08 -- the media will frame the election as "Woman President," pure and simple. The repetition of this theme will be endless. We will be absolutely saturated with it. If, as I suspect, Condi doesn't run, Hillary will be the sole beneficiary. If Condi does run, Hillary will still be the main beneficiary, because 1) she was in politics first; and 2) she has more political experience and campaign skill.
And many corporate-class Republicans and soccer moms will buy this "Woman President" theme. As usual, they will see and do what they are told to see and do by the Establishment. Therefore, the challenge we face will be even greater than in '04. We will need to work even harder than we worked then, and will need at least as good a candidate as W.
LOL.. there goes our ability to leverage and negotiate globally. Shall we switch to Pink white and lavender with lace trim, red white and blue is just to Y chromosomish.
It's you. :)
It's rather meaningless. I would hope that we vote for any office, including the President of the United States, based on qualifications, not upon one's sex.
As the 2008 Presidential electionis fast becoming a national obsession, at least among the chattering classes, we will be fed nothing but idle speculations until the advent of the primaries. "She loves me,she loves me not...."
I agree with my Mom that it wouldn't be good to have a woman president.
CONDI!
No. Ann's much too fascist. :) Hehehe!
HA! :)
Follow the money. Coming from albany ny who do you think requested this poll, and paid for it?
Gee, a station in NY. Why do I get the feeling that they are trying to position Hillary to run?
Wonder how they'll feel about it if Condi opposes her?
Could be fun.
I'm not a statistician, thoug I have stayed at Holiday In Express...but if I do the math in my head..given that women are a majority of the electorate, and a bigger majority of Dem voters, then Hillary should have had a much higher vote..
