New resistant strain of HIV diagnosed in New Yorker (full blown AIDS in 3 months)

A new, highly resistant strain of HIV that appears to develop rapidly into AIDS has been diagnosed in a New Yorker who had not previously undergone antiviral drug treatment, says the city health department, which is holding a press conference today.

While drug resistance is increasingly common in people who have been treated for the human immunodeficiency virus, city officials called the case “extremely rare.” The patient, who now has AIDS, is a male in his mid-40s who reported multiple male sex partners and unprotected anal intercourse, often while using crystal methamphetamine. The patient appears to have developed AIDS within two to three months of HIV infection, and at the most 20 months. People who contract AIDS usually get it more than 10 years after initial infection with HIV.

I'll save you. Don't have any kind of sex with risk-prone people of either sex. There - feel better ?

So without quarantine the dominoes will fall faster. Could this actually lower the infection rate if the infected die faster thus infecting fewer people.

Yes we need study and billions of taxpayers dollars to tell us that the way Gay men and IV Drug users have sex and use infected needles begets AIDS.

I wonder why President Bush isn't doing more to save these people from their unhealthy choices!

I hope you're not a University professor because you'd probably lose your job for saying what you just said.

Now, if you want to say America is the most evil county in history and that 9-11 victims were "little Eichmans," then you'd be OK.

Must be a new strain... meth shouldn't severely (to my knowledge) compromise the immune system (if so, the MHC would not have processed the antigens & the individual would not have tested + for the virus).

Evidentally same enough that the diagnostics pick it up, yet different enough that theraputics don't work.

It's all a matter of time anyway... HIV is notorious for "developing" drug-resistance.

Moral of the story: best not get caught with one's pants down (yech!!!)

Here's my question - if the little bugger (pun not intended) is mutating at this rate, are there any projections on when the thing might become an airborne-communicable variant? Or is that thought not possible for the virus?

What on earth is it going to take to convince these people that their lifestyle is killing them?

Unsafe queer sex is apparantly a fertile ground for various deadly virus mutations. Some basic Public Health 101 would stop the epidemic, but the democrats and the homosexual mafia will never permit this.

The virus is rather labile, not near as robust as HBV. Difficult to say how easily transformed into a more virulent agent. My guess is not very likely.

Some, the "bug hunters", don't care.

From what I can tell, they (not all but the vocal radicals) have rationalized this virus into some sort of positive --- a badge of honor so to speak --- in order to re-affirm their lifestyle. And their ideology which places their life style above all else, then leads them to conclude that those who criticize that life style in any way, even if only over health concerns, are in fact responsible for killing them.

I know it's irrational, but that sure seems to me to be what they are saying.
