Mason-Dixon poll: 79% of Georgians want a fair flag vote!
Mason Dixon Polling ^

Posted on 02/02/2005 9:21:46 PM PST by DixieOklahoma

A Janurary, 2005 poll of 625 registered voters in the State of Georgia, conducted for the Georgia Division Sons of Confederate Veterans reveals that, among other things 79% of registered voters believe that the state of Georgia should have a new vote on their state flag that includes the 1956-2001 state flag, which incorporates the confederate battle flag. The flag was not included in the latest flag referendum.

While a majority of voters may feel that a new vote is indeed needed between the current state flag and the former flag which was changed without consent of the voters, and not included on a flag referendum, only 47% of voters say they would choose the current flag (issued by republican governor sonny perdue) while 13% are undecided.

Another interesting fact is that 16% of blacks in Georgia said they favored a new vote on the flag, while 9% said they were undecided... A total of 25% either for a new vote, or undecided.

Also, probably out of sync with the rest of the country, only 29% of Georgians said that the confederate battle flag represented slavery, while a powerfull majority said it represented southern pride and heritage.

A very suprising statistic is that a full 18% of black Georgians said the confederate battle flag represented southern pride, though 71% said it represented racism and slavery.

70% of Georgians said they would accept the results of a new vote on the flag, regardless of the outcome, as long as the vote contained the controversial 1956 flag, which was removed without a vote of the people.

And a full 54% of Georgians said that the flag vote of 2004, which did not include the controversial 1956-2001 flag was unfair, which could spell trouble for republican governor sonny perdue, who was widely seen as running on a platform to give the people of Georgia a vote on the 1956 flag, but instead delivered a referendum on two different flags, after lobbying by the NAACP, southern poverty law center, and black caucus.

The flag was changed in part, by sonny's opponent Roy Barnes.

79% of Georgians want a fair flag vote!

So are we to conclude that 21% want an unfair vote?

Georgia conservatives need to punish Sonny Perdue for this also. Show the republican leadership in Georgia that mediocre conservatism, and caving in to the NAACP , SPLC and black caucus is simply not not enough.

The people of the state of Georgia have had our confederate flag ripped away from us.

It was more appreciable before it became a prop to keep darkie in his place.

I talked with my state Senator in a local grocery store. He's for a fair vote. Said so years ago when it was changed.
