American Generosity

The U.S. is, of course, to blame for all the world's ills. But when disaster strikes, who always renders aid? America is the world's largest contributor of international relief funds.

Last year Paula Dobriansky, State Department undersecretary for global affairs, reported "Americans privately give at least $34 billion overseas annually."

That does not include the $10 billion in official U.S. foreign aid, though it does include $18 billion in remittances immigrants send to their home countries.

That still leaves $16 billion sent across the world, which doesn't sound too stingy to us.

Great post!

But we're still greedy, capitalist, scum-sucking, American infidels. You should be thankful the world even puts up with us. Now get on your knees and beg for mercy, FO.

:) Denote heavy, heavy sarcasm.

1: The United States donated 35 Million dollars within 3 days of the disaster in Indonesia.

2: France donated $130,000 thus far (now 4 days).

The "Let them eat cake" attitude in France has risen to a new level.

Also needs noting, that France is the World's 5th largest economy, so it's not as if they couldn't afford it.

Egeland, a Norwegian, seemed particularly offended by the $35 million offered Monday by the Bush administration. That is likely just a first installment and nearly nine times the initial pledge of the European Union, which has a bigger economy. Still, Egeland believes more would be available if Western nations would just raise taxes.

How much, or little, has Norway sent? Does Egeland pay US taxes?

Not to mention Bush sent the Marines who aren't free.

Speaking of American generosity, they had an interesting little tidbit on CNN a while ago. According to them, American Muslims aren't donating the way they could be out of fear the charities they donate to might get them in trouble. And apparently many of these Muslim Americans are disinclined to give to non-Muslim charities. They'll either give to certain charities, which may or may not be on a watch list, or they won't donate at all. If true, how nice, eh?

Add $200 Billion we spent to bring justace and freedom to the Middle East.

Add about 1 Trillion we spend each year to secure the world from aggression.

This is the way of the world. As a wise old Jewsih friend of mine used to say: "Why does he hate me -- I never gave him anything?" If you help someone out with financial aid, that puts him in an inferior position to you in his eyes; he resents that, of course, and dislikes you for it.

France's contribution isn't even a donation. They expect to be paid back.

It's good to help our friends.

Just which of these countries helped us in Iraq?

Giving charity is a requirement of Islam. I saw a Muslim site today. People were writing in about how to give for the Tsunami.

These people are wanting to help the victims, not the terrorists.

Just accidentally stubled on a muslim site huh?

They talk a great plan and good intentions, don't they?
I prefer deeds. The road to hell... etc.

The $10 billion cited in the article is the tip of the iceberg. That figure can't possible be the amount of foreign aid in all of its forms. If the real magnitude were better known, the bureaucrats would be in constant fear of their losing their hides.

Most of them want to help the victims, not the terrorists.
They know what's going on.
