Gorbachev Backed "Earth Charter" is a Blueprint for Totalitarianism. (vanity)

The Earth Charter is the brainchild of Mikhail Gorbachev and world government advocate Maurice Strong. Gorbachev and Strong claim that "the very survival of mankind is in jeopardy" and believe that the Earth Charter is the solution. Gorbachev views the Earth Charter as "a kind of Ten Commandments, a 'Sermon on the Mount,' that provides a guide for human behavior toward the environment in the next century and beyond."

They've even created the "Ark of Hope", a replica of the Biblical "Ark of the Covenant". Inside the Ark's lid is the Earth Charter handwritten on papyrus paper.

Some of the more disturbing things proposed in the Earth Charter:

“The dominant patterns of production and consumption are causing environmental devastation, the depletion of resources, and a massive extinction of species. Communities are being undermined. The benefits of development are not shared equitably and the gap between rich and poor is widening. Injustice, poverty, ignorance, and violent conflict are widespread and the cause of great suffering. An unprecedented rise in human population has overburdened ecological and social systems. The foundations of global security are threatened. These trends are perilous—but not inevitable.”

“Control and eradicate non-native or genetically modified organisms harmful to native species and the environment, and prevent introduction of such harmful organisms.”

“Take action to avoid the possibility of serious or irreversible environmental harm even when scientific knowledge is incomplete or inconclusive.”

“Avoid military activities damaging to the environment.”

“Ensure universal access to health care that fosters reproductive health and responsible reproduction.”

“Promote the equitable distribution of wealth within nations and among nations.”

“Protect wild animals from methods of hunting, trapping, and fishing that cause extreme, prolonged, or avoidable suffering. Avoid or eliminate to the full extent possible the taking or destruction of non-targeted species.”

“Demilitarize national security systems to the level of a non-provocative defense posture, and convert military resources to peaceful purposes, including ecological restoration.”

“The partnership of government, civil society, and business is essential for effective governance. In order to build a sustainable global community, the nations of the world must renew their commitment to the United Nations, fulfill their obligations under existing international agreements, and support the implementation of Earth Charter principles with an international legally binding instrument on environment and development.”

I forgot to add their explanation as to the origin and history of the Earth Charter:

"In 1987 the United Nations World Commission on Environment and Development issued a call for creation of a new charter that would set forth fundamental principles for sustainable development. The drafting of an Earth Charter was part of the unfinished business of the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. In 1994 Maurice Strong, the secretary general of the Earth Summit and chairman of the Earth Council, and Mikhail Gorbachev, president of Green Cross International, launched a new Earth Charter initiative with support from the Dutch government. An Earth Charter Commission was formed in 1997 to oversee the project and an Earth Charter Secretariat was established at the Earth Council in Costa Rica."

Maurice runs some kind of hippy, Gaia, nature worship compound. I believe this cult operates in Colorado.

He owns several mansions and believes everyone should live in mud huts warmed by a 15 watt lightbulb. He's not required to do this because he believes he's one of the anointed ones in communication with secret Tibetan masters who run the world.

This nutcase would love to be the next UN secretary general, but the vetting process would expose his fascist cult. His "sustainable development" logo closely resembles the Nazi swastika. The New York Times would love him, though.

I've seen people harvest kudzu in the same way that others harvest hay. Cows love it, but it doesn't even make a dent in cleaning the stuff up because it grows back so fast.
