Looks like our stammerer-in-chief won't let American lives get in the way of his lust for hispandering.

... and... yes, we should enforce the laws we already have. How do we do that?

I don't have a green card. I don't have a U.S. passport. How do I not get deported?

Cute.

Stupid, but cute.

The 9-11 hijackers all entered the country legally. Which immigration policy should have stopped them?

You shouldn't even try to argue with the nuts in this thread. They're as obsessed with immigration as the DUers are with "Bush stole the election". Reality and reason are not possible with them so it is better to let them rant that Pat Buchanan is god and Tom Tancredo is the only man who can save the U.S.

Most won't be happy unless we round up every illegal, execute everyone of them (after all, they're law breakers) and then dropping Hellfire missiles on anyone who tries to cross the border will be considered "selling out" and "amnesty".

I fail to understand what a Federal Intelligence organization bill has to do with immigration, legal or otherwise.

The bill was supposed to implement the recommendations of the 9/11 commission, among which was the securing of documentation for federal identification. Some states give drivers licenses to illegal aliens, and seven of the 9/11 hijackers obtained licenses through illegal alien loopholes, and boarded planes with them.

Sensenbrenner's provison would have disallowed the use of drivers licenses from the states that issue them to illegals for federal ID purposes, like boarding airplanes.

Seems reasonable.

It is a little difficult to fathom an American president actually making deals with a foreign leader with our Social Security program. Vicente Fox seems to believe he can pretty much demand and get anything at all --- what other foreign leader has his eyes on our Social Security as a way to get more money for his government?

No one said to execute them --- just send them back to their home.

I completely agreee that drivers licenses should not be given to illegal aliens. Of course not. They're illegal.

Seems to me, though, that this bill has lots more to accomplish without getting so granular. Seems like maybe they're trying to do too much with one bill.

That comment makes no sense to me. What's convenient for illegal aliens is also convenient for terrorists.

There was no good reason not to have this legislation pressuring states not to issue drivers licenses to illegal aliens by September 30, 2001. There was no good reason not to include it in this bill.

The Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), currently being negotiated by 34 democratically elected Western Hemisphere nations, is intended to be the most far-reaching trade agreement in history. It is an effort to unite the economies of the Western Hemisphere into a single free trade agreement comprising 800 million consumers with a combined gross domestic product of $14 trillion. Florida FTAA, Inc. is the private-public entity led by Governor Jeb Bush and officials throughout the State of Florida with the mission that Miami, FL become the site of the Permanent Secretariat of the Free Trade Area of the Americas. Florida FTAA is chaired by Ambassador Charles E. Cobb, Jr. and managed by President Jorge L. Arrizurieta. The administrative offices are located at the Biltmore Hotel Conference Center of the Americas in Coral Gables, Florida.

I e-mailed both my Republican Senators asking them to vote this bill down. I'm not sure how they will vote.

I have a rat for a Representative who will be following the Bush/Democratic Party line on this issue.

Oh really? And what will you say when the cabotage laws are repealed, and you and all your buddies at Coex start having to compete with foreign carriers, currently prohibited from commercial carriage in the U.S.?

Like flying your little free-trade, foreign government subsidized Brazilian tube? Good. You'll appreciate it even more when all those folks on the frequency start having a little foreign accent to their ICAO English.

We'll see who squawks the loudest then. And their names will be ALPA, APA, and even the ExpressJets pilot's union.

Free trade and free movement of "workers" goes both way, smart guy. Better get used to those flea bag crashpads. It ain't gonna get better.

Nothing. It's just a rider attached to the Intelligence Overhaul bill. This has been going on for about 200 years. People (Senator Byrd comes to mind) attach an item in some unrelated bill and the President must accept the rider or kill the whole bill.

I know... and I do actually know better. If it weren't for the fact that I'm on my fourth beer, I wouldn't even try. :-)

I've been around FR long enough to know better, but for some reason these immigration threads still seem to push my buttons. I can't completely explain it.

I think perhaps my offense comes from some years that I spent actually standing a post on that border. I was a coastie once upon a time, and I did a lot of time watching that border with binoculars, and boarding boats, and searching for contraband and illegals.

The U.S. has 22,000 miles of "border". We defended this with a force somewhat smaller than the NYPD. The equator is only 2,000 miles longer, and yet there are yahoos around here that seem to think it is a simple and original idea that we should just "seal" that. Right...

I know a lot of good professionals in the Border Patrol, and Customs, and any number of other agencies that really do try their best to do the job they have to do.

To say that we have "open" borders is simply offensive, and essentially untrue. It is a lie. Worse than that, it just pisses on the good work of thousands of patriots that are out there *right now* standing a post on that wall.

This is what really ticks me off.

Pardon the rant.

Don't believe me? Here ya go, Union Boy: Cabotage Law Repeal Attempt

Whattya gonna say about immigration and job protection once it's your ox being gored, kid? The rest of the Aero industry has been facing it for decades - the last holdouts are you twerps!

Read it and weep. Your hero is gonna cut you off at the knees now that he has a clear majority in both houses. You're gonna compete with airlines that have costs lower than the commuters, flying wet lease airplanes built in the People's Republic (using designs they got from us, naturally).

Keep that chin up. Pray the Unions save your butt.
