This write-up is lousy; doesn't tell the whole story. I wish you FReepers could have been there. The place was PACKED with angry citizens from all walks of life who DON'T WANT THIS METHADONE CLINIC IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD. Folks brought their kids; there were elderly people there. They're afraid and rightly so. Methadone Clinics are a nightmare from hell!
Brad Castillo, City Council Member, made a major fool out of himself. He said that there's nothing can be done about this. It's a done deal. He said it would be discrimination against the disabled for us to deny the Methadone Clinic to set up shop right there and the City could be sued. Yada yada yada. People yelled at him that THEY HAVE TO LIVE IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD 24/7.
If anyone's interested, I'll fill you in. I was so disgusted I walked out. But first I said that I used to take my step son to a methadone clinic in Seattle. I saw him get into a huge fist fight right at the front doors. He's dead now. Drugs finally got him. Methadone was just another drug he was addicted to.

So sorry about your stepson. It must have been hell for you.
Meanwhile, in another neighborhood, citizens are enraged that a homeless "tent city" is being plunked down whether or not they want it. And there are always angry outbursts when halfway houses for sex predators come into local 'hoods.
Maybe every city needs to set aside a Creep Zone, where all of the above and every other undesirable, dangerous enterprise can be set up. I'm not kidding. Under a bridge would be a good place to start.

I have often said, what needs to be done is for conservatives to buy a house in upscale neighborhoods for housing paroled felons and sex offenders and let the liberals see first hand what the people in the projects get to see from the decisions of liberal judges.

people might get the impression that because its a "clinic" and it's only methadone, for Pete's sake, that its harmless.....
far from it....
people on Methadone are also addicted to other drugs, both legal and illegal....
and, they will do anything for those drugs....

Hey they tried to do this where I live, even in the midst of all the crap that went on. People did the same, got really outraged and turned it down.

My daughter used to work across the street from a Methadone clinic. Her shift started at 6 AM. The clinic opened at 7. The junkies were already lined up by the time she would get to work.
The only good news I have to give you is that when she got off at 2 the junkies were never anywhere to be seen.

Well, there is the convenience...
To: Saundra Duffy
Saundra, my condolences about your step son.
What do local zoning laws say?
This clinic should not be anywhere near a residential area. If it's a medical clinic, it's a business and belongs in a business zone. It also should not be permitted in a "gray area" business zone which overlaps a residential area.

Hint, hint: look at who owns the property. Odds are even that it's a relative of a local politician who sees dollar signs on the rental for the clinic.

Saundra this is the same old story we've heard a million times before, whether it's group homes for sex perverts or homeless shelters. It's always the same condescending "you serfs are terribly mistaken" crap.
Just keep fighting. Get your legislators (Villines and Poochigian) involved. Let them know you are breathing down their necks.
I hate government and feel-good busybodies. But of course, Freepers already know that.

Oh I forgot, find out who owns the property as well as who manages the facility and then go picket in front of their nice expensive homes. They hate that, especially on weekends and holidays when they have their family and friends over.
Let the whole neighborhood know about the dirty business they are in. You are totally protected under the 1st amendment as long as you keep it calm and don't block any streets or sidewalks. We did this with the Elk Grove pervert home. We haven't gotten rid of them yet, but it sure turned these guys comfy neighborhoods upside down.

when i lived in dc and went to gw i lived right across the street from a methadone clinic. every now and then id see a group of unsavory characters hanging around out there. there were never any problems. i wouldnt want them around my house in the suburbs though. they blend in better in cities.

Saundra, tell Brad Castillo you would be happy to work with the residents to raise enough money to expand City Hall so they can house and treat these poor victims.

Methadone outpatient clinics here in NYC are for the most part based in hospitals or industrial areas. The patients and clinics are far less trouble then they used to be(at least here) since many of them are in the 45-60 year old range.
While I wouldn't want one in my neighborhood they still perform a valuable function. In my younger years while still in the recording industry I was saddled with a monumental heroin habit and probably the only reason I'm still around was because I was able to get into one of the first Methadone clinics in Manhattan.
