Actually he is still 43. The number does not change if a POTUS is re-elected. Thus Clinton was 42 even though he was elected twice, Reagan 40, etc.

The only President who gets two numbers is Grover Cleveland, since his two terms were not consecutive. Cleveland was #22 and #24.

George H.W. Bush was our 41st president, Clinton was X42 while serving two terms. I believe President George W. Bush will remain our 43rd President.

If we allow him to be called "44", are we subconsciously acknowleging Gore as the real "43"? I think we ought to resist this.

Maybe you meant that 44 is how many 'Rat Senators are left. (Jeffords is a different kind of rodent).

It's only "44" if one is inclined to believe the myth that AlGore was actually "43".

Tommy
Little Tommy Dasshole,
He really is a twit.
Got booted from his senate seat,
He won't be missed a bit.
I'm laughing as he waves goodbye,
So happy he is gone.
George Bush has some capital.
Now Tommy needs a loan.
Tommy can you see them,
They did not vote for you.
Tommy can you hear them,
They could not support you.
Ohoh, oh, Tommy, Tommy, Tommy.

This little, annoying pit yorkie will be yipping around DC for some time to come. His wife is deeply committed to a career there and they own a mansion in the area and a luxurious beach home in SC.
He'll never go back to his home state and nobody will miss him.

"Bush won .. 44 is the NEW number .. we don't have to listen Daschle whine again, and ain't it a kick??" As stated elsewhere in this thread, the 44th president will be inaugurated in January 2009, not 2005, so unless Jeb Bush changes his mind and decides to run and win in 2008, the 44th president will not be a Bush.
Also, the (unnecessarily duplicated) question marks change what looks like a declarative sentence into a question.
Does the author really mean to suggest that Tom Daschle's defeat should *not* to be considered "a kick" by readers on this site? The power of punctuation, I tell ya...
PS-An ellipsis consists of three periods (...), not two (or four, or five or...oh heck, you get the idea).
