Even though NPR recommended it, I still think hiring Crane in the Bush WH is a good idea.

the bonehead move of having Alan Keyes (the guy takes himself too seriously ... and I'm a conserative republican saying that) as the senate candidate may have hurt here.

I am slightly embarrassed to admit it, but I voted for Phil Crane in the 1980 GOP primary. The winner of that primary, in case you've forgotten, was a man named Reagan.
