A motorcyclist who set jaws dropping across the nation last month when he was stopped for going 205 miles per hour south of the Twin Cities tells a reporter for Midwest Quick Throttle Magazine in an upcoming issue that he was going closer to half that speed, said magazine editor Pat Andrews.

Al Gore Jr. strikes again.
If that Honda was going 205 MPH then the State Patrol Cessna was going 410 MPH. Nay to both, dismiss the case.
That's probably the motorcycle John Kerry used to go from his fundraiser in Boston to Game 6 of the 1986 World Series where he got there just in time to watch Bill Buckner bobble the ball 30 feet away.
Anyone with half a brain would have looked at his calculation and realized he screwed up. This cop make a first class fool of himself.
Maybe, but the kid plead "not guilty"? He's likely to get slammed for that. There's no doubt he's guilty of speeding in the extreme, the question might be how much. Not worth arguing about. I'd yank his license for that if I could.
I _love_ driving fast - but there's a time and a place, not to mention the law, which precludes anything over 80ish. He puts other motorists lives at risk is the main problem.
I hope the state has more evidence than the ludicrous testimony of the guy in the airplane. Otherwise theyre just wasting taxpayers money.
I've been to traffic court. I'll tell you how it will go. The judge will pretend to listen to both sides, and say "it is your word against the officer's, and I have no reason to believe that the police officer is lying."
In traffic court, you are not innocent until proven guilty. You are guilty, and must prove your innocence. If it is your word against the word of a police officer, you are the liar. It doesn't matter if the officer is wrong. You have to prove him a liar. That's how it has worked every time I've been in traffic court.

That kid was riding a CBR-1000-RR, it has about 160 BHP and weighs about 430 lbs. In stock trim it has gone 173 mph, so while it isn't likely he was going 205 mph. With the right tweaking that bike is capable of that kind of speed.
(.25 mile/4.39 sec)*(3600 sec/hour) = 205 miles/hour
What did I do wrong?

While I might be persuaded that the kid wasn't going 205, I have no doubt he was going Really Really Really fast. Pleading "not guilty" is just an insult to the decorum I wish to maintain in my courtroom. (Well, in my dreams huh)
You get the idea though. There are places to go if kids want to drive like that. Our highways have enough carnage as it is with lawful drivers. There's absolutely NO excuse to put other innocent motorists at risk because this guy is an idiot.
4.39 sec
.25 miles
He lacks the ability to make either measurement within the precision indicated.
The solution is to let the bike run over a precise distance with photocell timers. other wise the case is blown.
Was he wearing his Seatbelt?
He should have kept his mouth shut about going closer to half of 205, but it's smart to plead not guilty if he can prove that it was impossible for his motorcycle to go even close 205 MPH. Once he does that it's case closed.
Yeah Right!!!
There are marks on the road for the planes to time by. And if he is off .25 seconds it makes very little difference, he is still speeding his @$$ off
Huh. Case closed if they can prove he wasn't going 205?
I know common sense doesn't spend much time in the vicinity with respect to matters of law, but it would seem reasonable to conclude that speed-determining devices haven't been around nearly as long as reckless driving.
In other words, an officer's word ought to be sufficient for this guy's license to get yanked for a good long while, rather than weaseling out on a technicality like "I was only going 191.22569905, not 205.. neener neener neener!!!"
You obviously stopped the watch way too soon.
