The death of journalism

Posted on 10/15/2004 10:38:26 AM PDT by Visioneer

CBS = Forged Government Documents

NBC = Interviews with Kitty Kelley for 3 days

ABC = Using North Vietnamese testimony to discredit our own Vets

For all practical purposes, National mainstream broadcast "journalism", in the USA, is dead.

Just my opinion...

It's been dead for quite some time now. Decades, in fact.

It isn't just broadcast "journalism."

As a former practitioner of the craft, I must agree with you.

Journalism is suppose to call it like you see it, not call it like you want it seen.

How sad...especially when our founders looked to a free press to help ensure the survival of the Republic.

The inmates not only run, they OWN, the asylum...

You know, the scary part is, it's not just your opinion. It's a fact.

The MSM is losing it's grip on American public opinion and they want it back. John Kerry is the MSM's last best hope at turning back the influence of the New Media. Bet your bottom dollar that a Kerry presidency will result in an attempt to squelch political speech on talk radio and the internet. The MSM has a different reason for wanting JFK elected.

Thank goodness for Free Republic. Thank goodness for the blogs. If we didn't have both of these, who would we turn to for the truth. I have finally seen the MSM for what they are and I am not the only one.

It is not 'Dead Journalism'...This is "COMMUNIST PROPAGANDA" and they way it has divided America, it seems to be rather effective, which breaks my heart.

If there were no alternative to the MSM, the battle would already be over....

This might be a little off the point but when Lincoln had bee dead for 10 years a group of people tried to steal his corpse. They were caught before they were able to do it. As a precaution against further attempts they dug a pit in the crypt and before they lowered it down and poured tons of concrete on it opened it up. The attending officials which included his son were aghast at the stench which came forth. President Lincoln's corpse was just starting to rot because of the 3 times that it was embalmed during his train trip and funeral. As Lincoln the MSM has been dead for years it's just not starting to rot and smell.

Agreed. It's just the stench from the corpse that we're getting.

I disagree with the premises.
Journalism has always been yellow.
It's very roots are in propaganda.
Gossip and opinion persuasion is the very origin of journalism.

The earliest printing presses were run by partisans and ideologues. Only very recently in history have we had these so-called "journalistic standards", invented by these same partisans and ideologues in order to inoculate themselves from criticism and accusations, and to add weight and authority to their own propaganda. What better way to get people to believe you over your rival than to claim that you are unbiased while peddling the same propaganda as always?
