Flash-column by Joe Moody
Terrorists are unable to confront the U.S. militarily, so their only weapon is terror. Whenever the terrorists be-head someone and videotape it, this is equivalent to them creating a "terror bomb." Whenever a media outlet replays a terrorist videotape, they are unknowingly dropping this bomb on their viewership.
This is not about censorship but about how to effectively fight this new kind of war. Such atrocities must be reported, but showing the video fulfills the terrorists wishes and spreads their terror to the masses. Ultimately they hope to terrorize Americans so much that they are swayed politically.
If media did not provide a vehicle for such "terror bombs," there would be much less incentive for the terrorists to continue committing such horrors.
Media outlets: stop dropping terror bombs!
You have hit nail on head. It's the same thing a criminal does to get his "15" minutes of notoriety....INFAMOUS, not famous.
Mogul Al Zarqwari is counting on this hitting US NEWS...it should not, NO coverage should be given to terrorists. Only to the good we are doing in Iraq. The media is actually aiding and abeting the enemy.
On the contrary, show the beheadings. Show the dead Russian schoolchildren. Show the people in flames jumping from the World Trade Center.
Show what we are fighting against, and why we are fighting. Never forget. Never forgive.
Nonsense
Terror? Nope.
RAGE . HOMICIDAL RAGE.
I'm with you - when people are too disassociated with the evil, they get complacent. Show it all and remind them of what we are fighting. Tell them that with a Kerry presidency, these scumballs might soon be visiting a school in their own neighborhood...
I could not disagree more.
Remember the Abu Ghraib tapes? How many times they were played?
Compare that to how many times they played the Berg beheading tape.
What was the effect? Anger at the perpetrators, right?
There needs to be anger at the perpetrators (or in Kerry's case, the "perpetraitors").
I don't want it to happen, but if it happens, show it.
And show it.
And show it.
You can't say this without also saying that the media dropped the bomb about the panty-heads. Tried to terrorize the citizens about the U.S. soldiers. But why do they get to be one-sided bomb-droppers?
Actually popular support for the U.S. mission in Iraq did not increase, but dropped sharply, when the beheadings started.
It seems to go both ways....
Absolutely, no media coverage should be given to barbarious acts. Take away the infamous "15 min of fame", ignore and it will not have an impact.
