Watch List Passenger ID'd as Cat Stevens Tuesday, September 21, 2004
BANGOR, Maine A passenger who was matched to a federal watch list, forcing a jetliner to be diverted, has been identified as singer-cum-Muslim convert Cat Stevens (search), according to federal officials.
The plane bound for Washington, D.C., from London landed in Bangor Tuesday, authorities said.
United Airlines (search) flight 919 had already taken off from London en route to Dulles International Airport when the match was made, according to Nico Melendez, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration.

Oh carp he's gonna sing!
I agree wholeheartedly.
That is when Cat lost me.
LOL! Is this a joke?
Anti-gun as far as we dhimmi are concerned. Just like John Kerry, incidentally.
This stinks. I love Cat Stevens music. This has me bummed out. The article also said that he isn't allowed in the US; that he'd be on the first flight back.....
Loggins and Messina are still at large.
Soon Cat will be singing "I'm being followed by a cruise missile, cruise missile, cruise missile."
I never could stand his inane "Cats in the Cradle". He and Jackson Browne and the other lame folk-rock people of his time wore thin quickly.
So's Dave Crosby
I gonna go out on a limb here and say that there is a rogue element adding these names to the watch list (Ted Kennedy and if I'm not mistaken some others), possibly to hinder its effectiveness and make the government/admin look foolish. /tinfoil hat
Cat Stevens:
Born Steven Georgiou, the singer dropped his nom-de-plume to become Yusuf Islam in 1977. His moment of enlightenment had come the previous year, when his brother gave him a copy of the Koran. From being a superstar at the age of 19 when Matthew and Son became a hit, Yusuf married a Muslim woman from central Asia called Fawzia, and became a high-profile spokesman for the British Muslim community.
Morning has broken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in 1989, Islam made world headlines when the press used his explanation of Islamic law and ruling on blasphemy to mean he supported the Ayatollah's fatwa calling for the death of Salman Rushdie, author of The Satanic Verses.
The headlines which read "Kill Rushdie Says Cat Stevens," caused angry reactions from fans and deejays who destroyed his albums in protest. The group 10,000 Maniacs also reacted by removing their version of Cat Stevens' "Peace Train" from copies of 1987's In My Tribe and from their shows.
Islam later released a press statement explaining his views and Islamic law, and said the book should be banned because it "insults God and His prophets"
He's a scumbag, he should shove it.
;)
The FBI really want to see England Dan and John Ford Cooly tonight.
