Every time I hear about how W is a "Fortunate Son", I want to scream. I just wish that the Alphabet soup media, the DNC, and whom ever else keeps talking up these points would just look into their own closets for skeletons.
Here is one I found about the darling of the Demoncrats, the most verbal and abusive toward W. Yes, I am talking about the master driver Edward M. Kennedy
- After his expulsion from Harvard, Teddy returned to Hyannis Port where he would sit brooding, sometimes for hours. - Finally, he enlisted in the Army. - Not surprisingly, he did not bother to read the enlistment papers and signed up for four years instead of two. - Ted's father, the US Ambassador to England, was horrofied at the thought of his youngest son spending four years in the service, with a good chance of being sent into combat in Korea. - "Don't you ever look at what you're signing?" he shouted.
- With one phone call Joe contacted a friend who managed to get hold of Teddy's enlistment papers. - Ted's enlistment period was shortened to two years, a maneuver that was nearly impossible for the average enlistee. - Furthermore, Ted would do his service in Europe, not Korea.
- Teddy never rose above the rank of private, and was discharged in 1952. - He returned to Harvard in the fall of 1953, as did his test-taking friend, and they graduated together.
Now mind you I did not take this lightly, I searched for some verification or corroboration, and found it here at this link.

In part here is what they have to say about our Fortunate Son Edward M. Kennedy.
This fine example for our youth has quite a colorful history all of his own. He was thrown out of Harvard college for having another student take a test for him, this of course, was covered up (an early trend starting) and was forced into the Army by old Joe for a 2 year stint as a Military Police "Honor" guard at SHAPE Headquarters in Paris, not a bad assignment for a rich, cheating brat during the Korean war. By the way, the normal enlistment period for that timeframe was four years, not two like draftees. After his service, he was allowed back into Harvard to complete his degree and go on to further education, all greased by his father.
Now I realize that this is not as important as the priviliged attention W got when his commander wrote a letter to GHWB telling him what a good trainee W was. But hey we can't all be "Fortunate Sons" now can we.
they should.
Dang :)
LT, this just made me automatically think about scotch, sirloin and skanks.
Funny, but I do not remember this coming up much during the 80 primaries. I am shocked Dan Rather was not all over this one.
How do you think Kerry got the pull to enlist in the Naval Reserves? I bet the Kennedy connection had something to do with it.
It really has everything to do with Kerry.
It was Kennedy who selected Kerry to run for the Senate. If you see Kerry, Kennedy is always over his right shoulder (even if you can't see him).
Kennedy and Kerry are a set, a matched pair.
Al Gore was the model for "Fortunate Son" (the CCR song).
Les Essarts is the Forbes family estate at Saint-Briac, France, and the international family seat of the descendants of James Grant Forbes (b. Shanghai, China), a member of the Forbes family of China and Boston who settled in Brittany at Les Essarts. He is the grandfather of two famous politicians, Brice Lalonde, a socialist and Green Party candidate for President of France in 1981, and John Forbes Kerry, a Democrat candidate for President of the United States of America. Many of the Forbes family have socialized during summers spent in Brittany at Les Essarts.

"The Forbes family of China and Boston, of which US Senator John Forbes Kerry and John Murray Forbes are members, amassed a huge fortune in the China trade, initially trading North American furs and manufactured goods for tea and other goods from China....Forbes also made a considerable fortune smuggling opium during the Opium Wars."
Too bad he went into the Army. Had he been a sailor the SS Chapaquiddick might not have taken Mary Jo down to her watery grave.
I thought he was the admiral of the SS Oldsmobile that sunk on its maiden voyage losing half of its crew compliment.
That is one funny photo.
