Love it. But it DOES show 1st Lt. rather than 1LT, and it does carry a P. O. Box.

I would have had to have cleaned that "e" and that "s."

"Rather tries to force the pass....PICKED OFF...Its #47...and this pick equals 6. WHOOOOAAA NELLY"
I looked at the document from the office.
The "th" is just small letters. It is not raised.

If I'm not mistaken, some bases are their own zip codes...sorting mail by PO Box (departments) would not be unusual.

My brain is fried; I have looked at more more typeface than I did when I was a court reporter. Yeah, but as a court reporter, you saw things that were TRUE, right? ROFLMAO ;)

The most compelling thing about the "real" memo is that it does not have proportional spacing.
Then there's the second most compelling element ~ the date is stamped in ~ just like dates are always stamped in "way back when" ~ as are the carbon sets associated with the memos.
Typing in the date did not become common practice until the coming of word processing equipment and software.
You might type a date into a personal document, but a secretary would leave the date blank. After all, you might not get to the memo/letter until the next day, and then it would be dated wrong and she would have to retype it.
The CBS forgeries have dates that are typed in.

I've been hitting all the threads on this with my own piece of analysis, and the images you posted confirm it.
We've heard about proportional spacing, kerning and superscipts. My evidence is lack of superscripts: the CBS memos lack superscripted suffixes on ordinal numbers exactly when
- There is a space between the numeral and the suffix, or
- The last 'numeral' is really a lower case L.
MS Word will not auto-superscript after lower case L's or when a space is inserted. A 1970's era typist (witness the genuine military memo on this thread, and Bush's discharge papers posted elsewhere) would not put a space between the numerals and suffix: 147th not 147 th.
The forger made 3 blunders (beyond neither resetting the default on MS word nor using Courier): putting in the tell-tale spaces, forgetting to put them in producing the automatic superscripts, and using a one rather than a lower case L at the one place where 111th occurs with a superscript.

I don't get it, Sam. These memos are all shabby frauds.
One after another. Who did they think they were fooling!?!

LOL, remember that gummy stuff you used to have to press on the type in order to clean it?

This is going to be a weekend just chock full of good TV... that's for sure.
:-)
It truly does boggle the mind that CBS has inexplicably decided to stand behind their story.

I'm not a pro on this and stand ready to be corrected, but I don't think the Air Force started using the "MEMORANDUM FOR" format until the mid to late 1990s. The second memo is in the format that was probably approved when W was in.
