Tony Martin billed $12,500 for electric bill while in prison -

By Aidan Mcgurran - August 28, 2004

TONY Martin has been sent a £7000 bill for electricity used by police at his home while he was in prison for killing a burglar.

Yesterday, the farmer, 59, said he was 'bemused' by Powergen's demand.

He only ever used one 40watt bulb in his rundown farmhouse, Bleak House.

And, since leaving jail 13 months ago, he has slept in his car and eaten in pubs.

The police's year-long, flood-lit security operation to guard the Norfolk farm - first as a crime scene, then to protect Martin - is thought to have run up the bill.

Martin says he has no intention of paying up He said: 'I could not have used this electricity. If I cannot get this resolved, I will cut off the mains supply and get a generator. I might remove the electricity poles from my land and see how they like that.'

Chief superintendent Alan Hayes said last night: 'If Norfolk Constabulary used any of Mr Martin's electricity, we would ask him to contact us so we can reimburse him in full.'

Martin was jailed for life for shooting dead burglar Fred Barras, 16, and wounding his accomplice Brendan Fearon, 33, in August 1999.

It was reduced on appeal to five years for manslaughter.

Here's an excerpt from Tony's support group:

"Political prisoner Tony Martin has been released at last after more than three years inside for the crime of self defence. The Criminal Justice system managed to delay his release again, on the grounds of the risk he posed to members of Britain's burgling community as they went about their daily labours. Showing great moral courage, Mr Martin again refused to show the required degree of repentance which could have earned him a release last year. But our Probation 'Service' would rather Mr Martin had not defended himself, but become a victim like this. Or this. Or this. Or this. You get the picture.

One of the three criminals who targeted Tony Martin has been granted legal aid to sue him for 'loss of earnings'. The poor man has since been scraping a living dealing heroin to keep body and soul together - altogether a most worthy recipient of taxpayers money. And in a last vindictive gesture by the authorities, he was released the Friday before Tony Martin. A professional criminal who has never had a job in his life - and the Probation Service is happy he'll go straight - two thirds off his sentence. A law-abiding citizen who only ever wanted to live in peace on his farm only gets half the remission.

Richard Littlejohn is right - you couldn't make it up. "

Over $1K a month on electricity?!? That's a lot of light! Doesn't quite make sense to me, but I'm positive that there's some injustice somewhere.

I went to the web page of Martin's support group. Everyone should go and read some of it. As much as the injustice is spelled out on this thread, what happened to Martin is even worse. Not only was he convicted in this offense, one of the thugs was given a public attorney to sue Martin and he was denied parole for a long period of time because the "authorities" did not think he was rehabilitated. Amazing.

"...Bleak House."

This is a WARNING to all. Never read Charles Dickens' "Bleak House." I repeat - never attempt it. At one time I thought, "Ah, here is a Dickens I never heard of. I should read it." After having slogged though half of it, I thought I may as finish it just to prove I hadn't wasted so much time. I ended up doubling the time wasted. If you ever want to know anything about the Court of Chancery, just skim an Encyclopedia Britannica article. You HAVE been warned!

Tony is considering running for office:

"TONY MARTIN, the farmer jailed for shooting dead one burglar and injuring another at his remote home - today said he was "seriously considering" standing as an MP at the next General Election.

Mr Martin, 59, said: "Everywhere I go people tell me how they are living in fear. But none of the political parties seem to be prepared to do anything about it. I want to give people a voice and get something done."

Mr Martin was jailed for shooting dead 16-year-old Fred Barras who had broken into Bleak House, his isolated Norfolk home, in August 1999. He shot Barras’ accomplice Brendon Fearon in the leg.

There was a huge public outcry when Mr Martin was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life. The charge and sentence were later reduced on appeal to five years for manslaughter. He was freed six months ago.

Mr Martin said: "I’ve never wanted to be in the spotlight but a lot of people do seem to see me as some sort of champion - even though it is not a role I have ever sought."

He said that if he decides to stand he will campaign on "a return to law and order and decency".

The majority of people in Norfolk’s isolated farming community, which the local MP describes as a "burglar’s paradise", feel they are at the mercy of criminals and expressed support for Martin after the shooting.

On his release from prison, Martin reportedly sold his story to a newspaper for an estimated £100,000. He announced that he would return to work on his 350-acre farm and become a spokesman on crime."

Is it any small wonder that it was an Englishman who wrote "Animal Farm" and "1984"? Socialism has been doing well in old Mother England for a long time.

Socialism has been doing well in old Mother England for a long time.

Since the beginning of the 20th. Century. An example of the inefficacy of socialism and the productivity of free enterprise can be found in an incident in the 1930's and England's need for aircraft to counter the impending Nazi menace. The British Government issued specifications for a fighter plane to the World renowned designer, R. J. Mitchell. Mitchell had designed the first plane to exceed 400 mph in 1931. Mitchell designed and built the plane according to the specifications, referred to as "F.7/30", the designation of the design criteria of the government. Needless to say that "F.7/30" was not a success.

Mitchell proposed to design a plane on his own. The company agreed and it was first rolled out on March 6th 1936. The little plane was as fast as anything the Germans had, or would have, until jets. In response, the British govt. merely gave Mitchell's airplane a new specification number that fit the new design and ordered 350 of the new fighters.

The little fighter aircraft was known to the govt as "F.37/34", to the manufacturer as the "Type 300" and later, to the rest of the world and the dismay of German pilots as the "SPITFIRE"!

Had the British socialists been the only airplane designers at the time, the Brits would now be doing Shakespeare in German.

Long live the Queen.

Are we allowed to contribute to his campaign from the US ?

How about some US citizens who shoot intruders running for office ? I seem to remember some guy from NY who got screwed over by a DA becasue he had the temerity to shoot an intruder in his kid's bedroom with an unregistered gun.

"Thou shalt not kill." That's God's law.

There are three exceptions- war, self-defense (where the intent is not to kill but to stop a crime from being committed), and capital punishment. All of these exceptions are in the Bible.

Interestingly, these seem to be the only times liberals think killing is wrong. They constantly side with murderers, abortionists, practitioners of euthanasia, and on and on.

If a liberal inquires if I am pro-choice, my answer is "yes, I am pro-choice for education. Vouchers are a great idea. Our children should have access to the same quality of education as our representatives in Washington."

What about abortion? Abortion is wrong. What about rape or incest? First of all, incest IS rape. Second, the rapist should be aborted, not the child.

America is not far behind the UK in this insanity. Will she wake up before it's too late?
