WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Kerry-Edwards campaign spokesman Chad Clanton released the following statement today about the new Swift Boat Veterans for Bush ad:

"This is another ad from a front group funded by Bush allies that is trying to smear John Kerry. The newest ad takes Kerry's testimony out of context, editing what he said to distort the facts. He testified as a 27 year-old Vietnam veteran. He opposed a war that, at that point, cost over 44,000 lives of the 58,245 names that are on the Vietnam Memorial wall. It says a lot that the President refuses to condemn this smear. The American people want to hear how we're going to cut health care costs and strengthen the economy, not smears."

Dang! Right on schedule. OK. A couple of you called it. Someone owes someone a beer.

"He was just young and foolish, blah blah."

No dice. That ad is DEVESTATING. Sheilds up they are in full defense mode now. That was the quickest response to an ad (Hell! The only response to a political ad I can think of) ever.

I like the way Kerry's career is being shown in chronological order.

Next up Lt. Governor Kerry signs an Executive Order in the 1980's prohibiting Massachusetts Civil Defense from planning for a nuclear attack.

"Kerry's testimony out of context, editing what he said to distort the facts"

Okay, so what was the warm and fuzzy context that would mitigate his lies, accusations and admissions?

The newest ad takes Kerry's testimony out of context,

Then put it IN context, Senator. Roll the entire speech for the country to see.

I watched the ad; it matches the testimony to a T.

Amazing that, for months, Kerry thought it was fine to sit back and watch Democratic 527 groups actually go so far as to compare President Bush to Hitler but let one ad finally come out against him and he is whining about how George is refusing to stop the bullys who are picking on him. This is the big baby that we want to represent our nation. Yeah - that'll bring us respect. Imagine having him whine that Osama just isn't playing fair!

That's one weak press release. They tried to say too many things and it makes them appear to be flailing and wounded.

Shrum's lost it. Next we'll see the Kerry Campaign in a personnel shake up.

... Who, as he reminded the Senators in the same testimony, had been in Paris as part of the VVAW's separate "negotation" with the VC and North Vietnam. IIRC, he recommended to the Senate this thinly disguised surrender as a model for the US government's own (rather more binding) negotation. Some context the Swiftees left out there! So flattering to Kerry!

I ask them if this was the place where you give money to help support the Swift boat add the veterans are running about Kerry.

He opposed a war that, at that point, cost over 44,000 lives of the 58,245 names that are on the Vietnam Memorial wall.

And how many of those 14,245 remaining lives were lost as a result of Kerry's traitorous testimony? For what portion of the increased public opposition to the Vietnam war does he bear responsibility? What might have been the end result of this war had he not done what he did?

He and his type (Dan Rather) make my blood boil, and he has now opened old wounds by claiming to be heroic, using his service as a campaign issue. By doing so, he just opened himself up to be lambasted by all those who thought the war didn't end as it should.

The newest ad takes Kerry's testimony out of context

According to some lib caller to Rush this afternoon, Kerry was "merely" repeating what the VVAW had learned, and thus that Kerry should not be held responsible.

If that's the "out of context" spin, it ain't gonna fly, friends. Kerry's comments are clear, Kerry himself has admitted to committing atrocities himself, the POWs' statements are powerful, and at least one of the POWs is connected to McCain, not Bush. I think this round goes to the vets, not Kerry.

Kerry is trying to trick the Bush administration into "coordinating" with the SBVets. Then the 527 contributions will be illegal.

I'm sorry, but I just don't get it. The news of the Day is heavy and very convincing that Kerry is a liar, a cheat, and an all around bum. Yet he still leads in most polls and the media is heavy in his corner. He (Kerry) should be sucking wind by this time. What the hell is wrong with the American people? Are they blind, too dumb, or just don't care that this Commie traitor could well be the next Commander in Chief.

I've heard Kerry's testimony replayed, read it and the ad matches it EXACTLY.

Notice that Kerry does tell us WHERE the lies are. Just that they are lies and we're supposed to take his word for it.

Same with yesterday. Kerry had every opportunity to tell us where the Swift Boat vets lies were in the book. He chose not to debate the substance of the charge, because he can't. He condemned instead the messengers. Just like the DNC always does.

Yes, but will his fellow travellers in the press go down with him? And can I stand on the shore and throw them ballast, anchors, sandbags?

Watching this I have two quotes running through my head. The first is from Napoleon "Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake." The other, a litle more obscure, has to do with watching your mothe rin law go over a cliff in your Lexus...but in this cas--watching Kerry and the media revealed to the American public is like watching my mother in law go over a cliff in my fully insured Chevy Celebrity...

The MSM is spinning that the first out is all Karl Rove's handywork. They are much more interested in the Swift Boat Vets political contributors (you and I) then they are in their allegations. That's all I have seen reported on in the MSM. But wait until this second ad hits the airwaves. I saw a clip from it on MSNBC at lunch. Notice I said only a clip because the ad is JUST TO DAMNING to be shown in it's entirety by the Lame stream media. That coupled with wide distribution of the book and Kerry will be "sucking wind" soon.

I would like to hear John Kerry point out even 1 thing in the new ad that is not true. I am skeptical of anything that looks like a smear campaign, but honestly, what is untrue about this ad? All the ad does is show John Kerry's statements and gives testimony from vietnam vets saying how it hurt them. What is untrue about that? what is illegal about that?

This is another ad from a front group funded by Bush allies that is trying to smear John Kerry.

He forgot the key part of the script: the ad is replacing the "now discredited" ad that "lied about" Kerry's bronze star. That was why the Washpost published their piece of crap yesterday so that it could be used as proof that the Swifties switched ads today because of it.
