New at SwiftVets.com (re: enemy fire during Rassmann incident)

August 19, 2004 -- Posted Swift Veteran statements in response to today's Washington Post article by Michael Dobbs, Records Counter a Critic of Kerry. Dobbs attempts to make a case that there was enemy small-arms fire during the Rassmann incident for which John Kerry obtained a Bronze Star, based on the writeup for Larry Thurlow's own Bronze Star. But who wrote the action report for the event? And why no bullet holes in any of the boats?

Twas the night before Christmas (Cambodian Version)

Twas the night before Christmas and we were afloat
Somewhere in Cambodia in our little boat.
While the river was lightened by rockets red glare
No one but the President knew we were there.

The crew was all nestled deep down in their bunks,
While the Spook and I watched the sampans and junks.
Our mission was secret, so secret in fact,
No one else would remember it when we got back.

When out on the water there arose such a clatter
I leaped down from the bridge to see what was the matter.
The incoming friendly was starting to flash
And I knew that the ARVN's were having a bash.

The snap of friendly fire on the warm tropic air
Convinced me for sure no one knew we were there,
On a clandestine mission so secret it's true
That I'm still convinced only Tricky Dick knew.

While I huddled for safety in the tub on the bow,
I thought of a title, "Apocalypse Now."
To give to the films I was I making each day
To show all the voters when I made my big play.

As I sat there sweating in my lucky flight jacket,
Spook said, "Merry Christmas!" and tossed me a packet.
And what to my wondering eyes did appear,
But a new lucky cap, which I still have right here.

I keep it tucked here, in this leather brief case,
Just sharing with the press its secretive place
As I regale them again with my senate refrain,
That Christmas in Cambodia is seared into my brain.

Don't bother to quibble with history my friend,
By pointing out Johnson was President then.
Don't listen to Swiftees who try to explain,
For I tell you that night is seared into my brain.

Down Hibbard, down Lonsdale, and you too O'Neill,
So you don't remember? Well it's something I feel.
I don't need all you Swiftvets to support my campaign,
Cause Christmas in Cambodia is seared into my brain,

Into my brain, into my brain, into my brain...

"Cleland's injuries were caused by him blowing himself up with his own grenade."

AND, he was off duty, and on his way to have a cold beer with a buddy.

The reason Kerry and Cleland bond so good is BOTH of their injuries were caused by them blowing themselves up with their own grenades.

Seriously. This is actually true. Kerry's "shrapnel", actually it's rice kernels, and Cleland's accident were caused by their own grenades.

I want to thank the Swift Boat Vets for again putting themselves on the line.
I want to say what a good job they are doing in the face of so much hostility . The people I have seen on tv are excellent. Keep it up

The Swift Vets should request the DOD to release all the boat logs of their boats. Then a better picture will emerge of what happened when John Freakin Kerry turned tail and dumped Rassman into the water!

Speaking of which, all Navy ships maintain a deck log. The deck log contains the position of the ship, major evolutions, causalties, etc.

Many deck logs are classified. I don't know if small ships like PCF's were required to maintain them, but you'd think that if they did, after 35 years the deck log could be declassified (or redacted) and obtained through a FOIA request.

That's what I figured. So do these reports not exist? Surely since a few of the boats hit mines, they would have been damaged. Where are those reports? That should help dispel the firefight then.

I'm certain that they exist somewhere. Just as I am that they were written in the first place. I have no idea where they are archived. It should be possible, though, for somebody to retrieve tham.

You sure they boats wouldn't deflect AK-47 rounds btw.? Doesn't makes sense to send a boat that will surely take fire into an area where it can be sunk with small arms fire.

I don't know enough about Swift boats to even hazard a guess regarding how effective their armor would have been against any particular weapon. Since heavy armor would add significant weight to the boat, I'm sure they were designed with the minimum necessary to provide crew and equipment protection.

Had there been heavy enemy fire, I would expect that at least one of the boats would have had a pilot-house window or two shattered. That information should be in the damage reports as well as any bullet holes that needed to be repaired.

All of these minor questions about the war hero could be cleared up if he would only release his military and medical records? Geez, why doesn't he do that? Does he have something to hide? Heh heh..........

"Has anyone ever asked Rassman why he fell into the river to begin with? I suspect he fell overboard as Kerry poured on the power to flee the scene."

Anyone noticed how carefully the present Kerry attack is worded. They keep on quoting Rassman as saying "he fell off the boat." They never say which boat!

As I understand it from another thread here, Rassman's credibility has been totally compromised because apparently on some occasions he said he fell off Kerry's boat, and in others he said he fell off another boat.

This link should give you an idea of what might be available:

I sure the Swifties have had people look into this. There must be a couple of big piles of "merde" in Kerry's record for him to be stalling on signing the 180 like this.

I think that every time someone sends a donation they should e-mail Chris Matthews and other liberal commentators and tell them they are sending the donation because of the unfair way the Swift Boat Vets are being treated.
