There is a rumble when the bedrock of free civilization is shaken, and few heed the warning - just prior to the earthquake, when relentless forces threaten to destroy the foundations of freedom.
That rumble echoed, ignored, the morning of June 29, 2004, when John Kerry stepped to the podium for rehearsal of his acceptance speech for the Democratic Party's nomination. He turned to his audience of reporters and spoke, specifically to them:
"Members of the Fourth Estate, I have called you here to tell you that your reign is over."
According to eyewitness accounts, there were titters of laughter, and some applause among the members of the media chosen to be there. Kerry smiled, and proceeded with his preparations for coronation as the Democratic nominee.
And so began the Democratic Party's war against the Free Press.
Had any other candidate with any other party made this statement, reports trumpeting the demise of the First Amendment would be flying. Had any other candidate with any other party spoken these words, in jest or otherwise, the press would have called for the candidate's recall. Instead, laughter and applause were duly provided, then the convention reporters beat a submissive retreat to their laptops.
Indeed, Kerry's lapdogs in the mainstream press have no need to fear their master - they are already well aware of their status as servants to the Democrat's cause. Throughout the last decade, real journalists have been supplanted by former Clinton Cabinet members, Government officials, and paid political consultants from the Democratic party. They are not journalists, but rather they are spokesmen for the party; they have no pretense of real news training, or objectivity. They will not fear the threat to the "Fourth Estate". for they know they are not truly members of the Fourth Estate at all. But for those still free in the press, this supposedly "jesting" statement should sound the alarm to all who value their freedom of speech.
But if these partisan reporters are not truly members of the Fourth Estate, then who?
You and I, the citizen reporters of the United States and denizens of the populist cybermedia, are the new face of the Fourth Estate. The Fourth Estate, according to Wikipedia, is first mentioned by Carlyle in his book, The French Revolution, where he speaks of "A Fourth Estate, of Able Editors, springs up". The press, in other words - but not just any press. A free press made up of the proletariat, to be precise. In a world made up of elitists, the proletariat had no press until the free press arose from among them, and if the free press folds, the proletariat will be voiceless.
We are the proletariat, the people who are fighting the wars, feeding the hungry, paying the taxes, casting the votes. We are the ones writing the blogs, posting in the forums, chatting online, spreading the word about news that the newsrooms no longer consider ?fit to print?. We have proletarian views about marriage, about abortion, about justice, about truth, about right and wrong. We believe there is such a thing as Good and such a horror as Evil, and we choose to fight the Evil that confronts us. We believe in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We have Freedom of Speech, and we hold sacred the Bill of Rights which gives us that freedom.
But according to the Democratic Nominee for the President of the United States of America ? John F. Kerry - our ?reign is over?.
That once proud ?party of the people? - the Democratic Party - has long ago abandoned us; they now cavort with celebrities, mingle with the billionaires of the world, and shake down the very people they were elected to serve. They are not the party of the people; they instead are a new breed of Elitists, bent on deposing proletarian thought, morality, and freedom, seeking to replace them with rules which serve their own corrupt agendas.
John Kerry spoke it from the floor of the Democratic convention. ?Members of the Fourth Estate, I have called you here to tell you that your reign is over?.
If you are one of those who is sure that your interests are being protected right now in the newshouses of Cable and Broadcast media, then you needn't worry. You are a member of the Elite class - that same class that controls the universities and the upper echelons of Hollywood society also owns the majority of the newshouses in the nation. If you feel that the Elitist press speaks for you, then you are a member of that elite group or you are a member of a group that serves them. In either case you are not to worry. For now. Later, you who serve the Elitist party will be called to serve their controlling interests, whether or not you want to...
But for those of us who do not serve the Elitist agenda, we have great reason to fear John Kerry's words, even if they were supposedly made in jest.
JibJab, maker of the biting parody "This Land", is being threatened with legal action for the fair use of Woody Guthrie's song in a political satire. Churches are being monitored by leftist groups seeking to shut down conservative thought and preaching from their pulpits."Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" has been threatened with lawsuit by the Democratic National Committee and the John Kerry Campaign for distributing books and advertisements critical of John Kerry and his actions in Vietnam. Stations who run the ad are also being threatened to not run the ad, or they will face legal action as well. The action seems to fly beneath the radar of the Elitist press; but the idea of a political party or a corporation threatening to sue dissenters would have once shaken the very core of newrooms across America. Today, it is mentioned only in passing by those who are not really newsmen at all - they are simply readers for those who have paid them to speak, and they are simply reading what is given them. The responsibility of speaking out against the Elitist agenda - to control that which the proletariat can do, can say, can even sing - has not been given to them. Rightfully, the duty to speak out has been left to us, the true members of the Fourth Estate.
John Kerry has made his statement. "Members of the Fourth Estate, I have called you here to tell you that your reign is over."
That rumbling in the distance is a warning of greater upheavals ahead. It is a declaration of war - one put forth by John Kerry on the morning of his coronation. It is up to us, the members of the Proletarian press, to fight to win this war. We, the Members of the Fourth Estate, must do everything morally and legally within our power to ensure that John Kerry's reign never begins...
Did it just get a little chilly in here, and windy?
(I didn't know Kerry sadi this. O_M_G.)
Kimmie rocks HARDER!! How are you, dear?
This is a great piece. Thanks for posting it.
It's beyond comprehension that this should be happening...for the life of me I cannot fathom why people want to vote for this monster...I really do not understand. It defies rationale.
Yeah, right on the mark! Bump!
BUMP!
Wow! This is beautifully done!
BTTT
Here please
Apart from the constant use of the word, "proletariat", this is a decent article.
Whoever she is, she will never work again. Hope she's got enough pop-up ads on her blogsite to be self-sufficient.
Ted Turner has called for a breakup of the News Monopoly. Who should know better of its evil and power than the devil's own?
The signs were there when Disney was taken over by audio/visual polluters.
Maybe this should become a campaign issue?
It's gonna get worse when the McCain Feingold (60 day?) provision kicks in. These buttmunch media sycophants are going to be drunk on their new power and will be worse than ever.
Fine and dandy, dande! Busier than a one-legged man in a butt kicking contest, though. I've been around -- down to lurking on the Terri threads, but there just the same...and taking action.
See tagline.
They are no longer members of the Fourth Estate - they are officially removed by US, now.
We aren't the "proletariat," we're the middle class, the "bourgeoisie," and the left has sworn to destroy us.
I wish more of US understood that, judging an argument by its content and supporting data rather than discounting the lack of "prestige" on the part of the source.
