As the U.S. Border Patrol steps up surveillance along the Arizona-Mexico border, immigrant smugglers are acting more violently toward agents, officials say. There have been about the same number of assaults this year as there were at this time in 2003, but the degree of violence is significantly higher, Border Patrol spokesman Andy Adame said Monday.
As enforcement is beefed up in Arizona, the busiest illegal entry point along the 2,000-mile border, smugglers are getting more desperate, Adame said. "They're starting to see some losses," he said, "And when you talk financial gain with smugglers and the loss of it, they're going to react violently."

Heightened border security increasing smuggler violence
LOL Oh, by all means, let's cancel the security then. They're just good, family men trying to feed their families, doing the jobs Muricans won't do.
In 1998 there was one border guard for every 13.5 miles on the northern border and one border guard per one-fourth mile on the southern border. After 9/11 there was a massive increase in border security efforts.
But as long as we need foreign workers, and as long as men are willing to risk their lives to feed their families, there will always be immigrants, legal or illegal.
We should return to the policy of allowing laborers to freely enter the US at crossing points where they can be ID ed and searched for contraband. This would free up the border patrol agents to concentrate on drug smugglers and terrorists who can't get through the crossing points.

Put yourself in the shoes of Paco, purveyor of bulk recreational pharmaceuticals. The gringos are famously too lazy or greedy to help move your merchandise to market. So you have to export your own labor force with your product.

LOL Yeah, they added 300 something new guards, promptly removed them to the Canadian border, and now a few are back. As long as the amnesty loving crowd on both sides refuse to do something serious about the problem, we're dead meat. When they're serious they'll apply RICO to any employer, confiscate his property and have him do mandatory jailtime. The jobs for illegals will be gone within 1 day. Legislaters then will cut off the theft of taxpayer pockets by dropping the Anchor babie provisions and all forms of public assistance they now enjoy. They'll deport themselves and the smugglers will be all but out of business. Until they do that, there is zero hope that we will keep out anyone who wants to come in. Zero.
Most newspapers here in Arizona won't touch the stories given half a chance to back away.
