Amen and thanks Carlo.
It's beautiful. I'm saving it to print out later. It'll be great at the Crafton Celebrates 4th of July festival. I'm going to hang it in the scout booth tonight.

Yes, it surely is America the Beautiful!!
Today is my daughter's 6th birthday, she has finally come to the understanding that the fireworks are not for her, but for our great nation - but the 2 will forever be entwined because of the proximity.
I'm tweaking and tweaking some code for a post celebrating both events.....I'll post it as soon as I get it right.
I don't have much cooking to do this weekend........we're not going to be home very much!!!
I do have a wonderful recipe for a spicy cabbage salad that is wonderful for bringing any place.....it can be eaten hot, cold, or room temperature and it keeps practically indefinitely!!!

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
4 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon cumin seed
3-8 dried chiles (or to taste)
1 small onion, sliced
2 1/2 cups cabbage, shredded
2 carrots, grated
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablesoons lemon juice
Melt butter in sauce pan and saute cumin and chiles about 30 seconds. Add onions, saute another 2 minutes. Add cabbage and carrots and stir-fry 5 minutes or until cabbage is limp. Remove from heat, stir in lemon juice and salt.
Can be served hot as a side dish, or cold/room temperature as a salad/slaw.
Eaily adaptable for quantity and spiciness. Keeps at least 2 weeks in the fridge (I remove the chiles when storing)

I like that!!!!!!!!!!
I'm not a big fan of cabbage, but I really like this recipe, it's so very versatile....so FREEDOM CABBAGE is a perfect name for it......you're free to modify it anyway you want.
For those that don't like spicy - omit the chiles and substitute caraway seeds for the cumin.
And olive oil works just as well as the butter.
I'm going to make it in a oasting pan tonight.......I'm making enough to bring to 3 different parties this weekend!

I LOVE CABBAGE.. I use it in a variety of soups all the time.. it adds a unique flavor that cannot be substituted with anything else.. I can't believe that I introduced sauerkraut early enough in my kids lives that they still love it ..occasionally. I like your recipe just the way it is.. but your subs are a great idea.. Thanks .. Have fun the holiday.. :)

WHY I LOVE the UNITED STATES of AMERICA
I love her wide open big skies
her prairie lands
her Golden Shores
her Scales of Justice
her sense of humour
her open arms
Our Grand Lady Liberty
my Grandmother met as she came through the gates 1899...
Freedom to worship as one pleases or not to.
To have people from every nation
of the world living free within her borders...
For the opportunity to achieve great heights if one wishes
I am proud to be an American...
to say The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag
to honor her FLAG and treat her with care...
I am proud of her, my nation, my homeland...
AMERICA the LAND of the FREE and the BRAVE.

My country tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty, Of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died! Land of the Pilgrim's pride! From every mountain side, Let freedom ring!
My native country, thee, Land of the noble free, Thy name I love. I love thy rocks and rills, Thy woods and templed hills; My heart with rapture fills Like that above.
Let music swell the breeze, And ring from all the trees Sweet freedom's song. Let mortal tongues awake; Let all that breathe partake; Let rocks their silence break, The sound prolong.
Our father's God to, Thee, Author of liberty, To Thee we sing. Long may our land be bright With freedom's holy light; Protect us by Thy might, Great God, our King!

As I said, I'm not particularly fond of cabbage - but I have always LOVED sauerkraut. It's something I would really like to learn how to make.
A few year ago a friend and I bought a dozen of the biggest heads of cabbage I have ever seen and gave them to another friend who turned them into sauerkraut....MAGNIFICENT.

My daughter "graduated" kindergarten 3 weeks ago...the program they put on was wonderful.
100 5 and 6 year olds led the auditorium in the Pledge, then sang the National Anthem..it was wonderful......
But I have to admit, I don't believe there was a dry eye in the entire room when these little kids finished singing Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA.
And for those that aren't aware - my daughter goes to, yes, PUBLIC school.

I grew up in NYC and doubt I would now find the same anywhere but in the Catholic schools I went to, if even there.
One of the reasons we chose to move to this particular area of Virginia (besides my husband's job) from Delaware was because of the school district.
It is a fact of life, no matter how much we tighten our budget belt, I would have to go back to work full time to cover the cost of private school, because we refused to put her in ANY pubic school in Delaware.
Me not working means I'm here when she gets home from school and that is extremely important. having her in a good public school also allows us to do "stuff" that cost money. We're not extravagant people, but she is taking swimming lessons right now, she's going to soccer camp next month, also Bible camp and I'm looking into riding and piano lessons....all things that couldn't be done if she werein private school because I wouldn't be around to take her.
