Bush Administration Frustrating U.N. Population Control Advocates

WASHINGTON, June 21, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.net) -

Disgruntled U.N. officials and population control advocates have expressed indignation with the Bush administration's increased efforts to cut all funding to the United Nations Population Fund, the population control wing of the United Nations which has been implicated in human rights abuses in China involving coerced abortion and sterilization.

The critics, many of them speaking anonymously because the U.S. is the leading contributor of their agencies, complained that the administration's efforts are undermining their advances in "family planning" around the world. Sterling Scruggs, a former official in charge of external relations for the Population Fund, said his agency was being "blackballed. They've defunded us, and even that isn't enough. It's unbelievable."

The Administration angered these groups most recently by refusing to fund an international health conference in June that featured the UNFPA and other pro-abortion groups and by recent private warnings to groups, such as UNICEF, that their funding could be jeopardized if they insist on cooperating with the Population Fund. The administration has also indicated that it hopes to persuade the United Nations' Latin American caucus to back away from a position that seems to promote abortion.

In a letter to Secretary of State Colin Powell on Friday, four Democratic members of Congress replied by demanding a legal explanation for withholding money from the fund and for the "threatened defunding of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children Fund." "When will the President's right wing be satisfied - when they close down the U.N.?," said Democratic Representative Carolyn B. Maloney of New York.

If we're frustrating these people, we must be doing something right.

She is correct. I personally would be fine with a shut down UN. However, as long as it remains in existence we better keep our seat on the Security Council so we can veto any resolutions from the African and Islamofascist dictator factions that might call for regime change in the US.

No, but it's a start.

"When will the President's right wing be satisfied - when they close down the U.N.?," said Democratic Representative Carolyn B. Maloney of New York."

Nope.

That's just for starters. After the UN takes up residence in Paris, we're gonna cut off the EU, too. Finally, we'll look inward and send RATs like Ms. Maloney back to their women's shelters and empowerment workshops. After that, we're gonna take up the politics of culture and morals...

You're getting her confused with Carolyn McCarthy, the congresswoman from Long Island.

These dissenters to President Bush's policy are worried about funding for their jobs. Period.

Ummmm, your organizations mission is evil, and has been caught not only trying to pursuade others to engage in it, but to involve itself in violently or deceptively forcing it upon others.

You got it, Maloney. Can anyone give a good reason to support this ARab controlled, corrupt Anti-American outfit?

I don't think Bush acted firmly enough replacing the clintonoids in many parts of the government, but he did put a strong team in at the UN as soon as he came into office. Compared to clinton's UN people, it's like night and day.

Bush really has done very well on defunding international abortion, although I wish he would also fire some people at USAID.

Hey, maybe it's just me, but I always thought that the UN was supposed to be about peace, and helping people to learn about growing crops, providing them with clean water supplies and sewage systems, disease control, vitamins and medicine. Silly, huh?

In a letter to Secretary of State Colin Powell on Friday, four Democratic members of Congress replied by demanding a legal explanation for withholding money from the fund and for the "threatened defunding of the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children Fund."

Secretary Powell should have shrugged his shoulders, and said, "I dunno. Maybe the will of the majority of the American people?"

The UN sure had it good under the Clintons.

"Carolyn B. Maloney ... for a woman who lost a husband and a child in th LIRR shootings... You would think she had feelings for life."

There is a lesson here that Conservatives need to bear in mind and liberals need to learn: Victimhood does not imply virtuosity.

If you are a scumbag, and happen to be victimized by fate, chances are you will remain a scumbag afterward.
