Punk and Conservatism, Not Mutually Exclusive
http://www.conservativepunk.com/cpabout.htm ^

Posted on 06/20/2004 10:44:30 PM PDT by Rushgrrl

A Statement of our Mission At Conservative punk, our mission is threefold:

1. To inform today's youth that identify themselves with the punk scene with the facts, rather than rumor and conspiracy theory.

2. To encourage today's youth to register to vote and become engaged in politics.

3. To encourage youth voters to draw there own conclusions rather than indoctrinate them into a certain way of thinking.

Punk music has been, and still is, one of the most heavy-handed genres of music there is. Unfortunately the topics of such heavy-handed songs are almost always seeped in left wing propaganda, bumper sticker rallying calls and oversimplifications of otherwise complex topics. Unfortunately the websites established by such bands to further their political views don't offer much more by way of information and truth than the music does. We at conservative punk mean to be the foil to this trend. We plan on filling in the gaps. We will offer our own views while still urging young punks to search for their own conclusions. Hopefully in doing so we will energize and excite young people enough to become engaged in politics and exercise their power at the ballot box.

Punk and conservatism are not two words that people will automatically put together, and maybe twenty years ago, you wouldn't see it at all. But these days, some involved in the whole punk scene are choosing their country over created and anti-American sentiment. It's truly amazing, the lines that are being drawn all over the country, in all different ways. I am proud to say that I live in a country where this is even possible.

I found this good quote on a website that I found from one of the Conservative Punk linked sites:

"...it is hard to read the philosophy of communism because it’s so wrong-headed – once you’ve got individualism, its opposite doesn’t make any sense."

When it comes to Punk Conservatism, as with any label, it has to be defined. There are Anarchists (all varieties), Communists, Marxist, Libertarians etc. One thing that connects the thread of Punk and (paleo)conservatism is anti-authoritarainism and individualism. This makes them of course less "punk". However, towing the current Bush administration and Pubie Party line, makes us less "conservative.

You're all potential anarchy burgers
If you wanna be free
Order yourself an anarchy burger
Hold the government please

Anarchy burger
Hold the government
Anarchy burger
Hold the government

America stands for freedom
But if you think you're free
Try walkin into a deli
And urinating on the cheese

Anarchy burger
Hold the government
Anarchy burger
Hold the government
Hold the government please
Hold the government

One's politics is not dictated by one's taste in music.....not anymore.

He's a real case study.

There were two versions of "California Uber Alles" - the one I quoted, and the second one, called "We've Got A Bigger Problem Now" - in which he changed the lyrics to attack Reagan instead of Brown. From what I heard, the reason was the amount of heat he was getting from his leftist "Friends", particularly the Maximum Rock & Roll crowd.

My guess is his supply of cocaine and << censored!! >> was being threatened... (Anyone wanna buy some ideals? For sale, cheap!!)

Jello's just another old man with a pot gut now, anyway...

As someone who's pretty young, (23), and, although I've never clamed to be a 'punk' type, I've undoubtedly been to more 'punk' shows then the rest of this board combined, Punks SHOULD be conservative, if they believe what they say. Problem is, they usually get too caught up in just being anti-establisment nomatter what it is.

Still, maybe this site will help. Doubt it, but actually, the community would be ripe for harvest if they would only listen to facts and reason and not propoganda.

Hey, somebody who knows their stuff.

Anyhow, yah, kinda a shame, their target was right the first time.

Oh well. Jello's always been out of his mind. Still like his music though. Terminal Preppy has to be one of the funnist songs I've ever heard, and who doesn't love Holiday in Cambodia?

Jello has made his rounds with Janeane Garofalo on AirAmerica. After sifting through to find a transcript (I found audio) the many Rat blogs hated Jello, thought he was a egotistical prick.

Punks SHOULD be conservative, if they believe what they say.

That is very true. My skateboarding, mohawked in the past, SO is very conservative in his beliefs, as were many of my friends back in the day (even if they didn't call themselves conservative).

It's pleasing to see that not all subcultures are buying into leftism, but I'm going to tell these jokes anyway:

Q. How many punks does it take to change a light bulb?

A. None. Punks only talk about change.

Q. How many hippies does it take to change a light bulb?

A. Also none. They just wait for the light bulb to burn out and then follow it around for 20 years.

At 23 you give yourself way too much credit since punk has been around for long enough to have more than a few devotees on this board who have since grown up and seen the light
