WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) -- A food fight that started with fruit cup turned into a mealtime melee, serving up a full plate of arrests and injuries.
Seven seventh-graders were arrested after a spat in a middle school cafeteria left two teachers and a detective with injuries Wednesday.
The incident began at West Side Middle School after a girl dumped a fruit cup over a boy's head, police said.

I blame Hollywood. If they stopped making movies with kids and food fights, then these kids
would'nt have been
tempted to be so
violent. /sarcasm
How bad was the teach hurt? If it was hurt feelings, then they better get some awards.

You know.... I think generally the solution of "suspend them and send them home to thier parents" doesn't work well. About half the time the parents are convinced that it's the school's fault for one reason or another.
I'm probably more in favor of the take them outside and beat the daylights out of them method.

Clearly legislation is required to restrict the use of fruit cups in school areas. However, the fruit cup industry is simply too powerful as are their fruit cup whacko supporters.

The government should impose a 3-day waiting period for school lunches to help protect the children.

It's all George Bush's fault. If Bill Clinton were president, then everybody would have been performing oral sex. Instead, it's war, war, war.

Interesting that the teachers and detective were injured while no STUDENTS were. Seems they should have stayed out of it!

I think having them clean up the whole mess and the rest of the school and pay for any damage would be much better. That's what happened when I grew up and was effective what I remember :)
I still have to laugh though.

I agree with that. You know, my wife is an 8th grade teacher. A few years back she had a couple of twins that were walking hell. I mean these kids caused maximum trouble for everybody they could. School sent them home repeatedly... even to the point that the dad was going to sue the district for "singling out his kids" etc. My wife has taught 27 years... and these were far and away the worst.
After the 2nd semester started and my wife was about to either cry or quit her job, I went one evening to the kids house. They lived around the block from me. Told dad face to face that if his kids gave my wife one more minute of problem in school, that I would personally kick his you know what. Well that didn't go over well, and there was talk of court proceedings and all sorts of things. But when I left, he understood that I was absolutely serious. Didn't matter what else happened, I had had enough. His kids from that night forward treated my wife with respect.... treated her like a teacher. He of course called the school and complained about me... and they told him I wasn't under thier jurisdiction. And I see him around the neighborhood now and then... but he always looks the other way.
Very true story.
