French film legend Brigitte Bardot has been fined 5,000 euros (£3,301) for inciting racial hatred in a book. The charges against Bardot, 69, related to her best-seller, A Cry In The Silence, in which she said she "opposed the Islamisation of France".
Last month the former actress apologised in court, and said: "I never knowingly wanted to hurt anybody."
In her book she wrote about issues such as racial mixing, immigration, the role of women in politics and Islam.
The book also contained a section attacking what she called the mixing of genes and praised previous generations who, she said, had given their lives to push out invaders.
Bardot's comments prompted anti-racism groups to launch legal proceedings against the actress, who now campaigns for animal rights.
The court said: "Madame Bardot presents Muslims as barbaric and cruel invaders, responsible for terrorist acts and eager to dominate the French to the extent of wanting to exterminate them."
It awarded a symbolic one euro in damages to France's anti-racism movement MRAP and to the League for Human Rights who brought the case to court.
The court also ordered a 5,000 euro fine against the head of Bardot's publishing house, Le Rocher, and ordered both to pay for advertisements in two newspapers announcing their convictions.
Bardot has previous convictions for inciting racial violence after criticising in print the Muslim practice of slaughtering sheep.
Every story like this that comes out of the EU makes me grateful that I live in a place with a First Amendment.
It will soon be eclipsed by hate crimes legislation that will be extended to "hateful and insensitive speech."
Ummm...Yeah, so and? Does saying the sky is blue get one fined in France as well?
Religion of Piece(s) bump!
I guess the truth offends the libs quite abit in Europe.
----coming to the USA as soon as the Demotraitors get power and pack the Supreme Court with another "justice" or two who doesn't understand "Congress shall make no law"---sooner than we think----
Well No S*^* Sherlock.
Yes, and even the Ukraine gave up the death penalty in order to be able to join this "union". How heavy-handed the new Europe is with many issues and as illustrated here with freedom of speech.
Although hearing and reading things like the recent bashing of Reagan sets my teeth on edge, I thank God for the brilliance of the Bill of Rights and its framers. Having to put up with the idiotic expression of some is far outweighed by the value of non-government controlled and dictated expression for all.
"Madame Bardot presents Muslims as barbaric and cruel invaders, responsible for terrorist acts and eager to dominate the French to the extent of wanting to exterminate them."
And to that end she is 100% correct.
France is SO toast.
Islam is a race?
They`re fining her yet Jac-azz Ch-iraq bans headscarves in school. I guess that`s the French limit to fighting the cult of terror; Pick on ze little girls, disrobe their heads. I bet the cult bombs the Effen tower for that reason alone.
Speech codes are here as well as there. How many campuses have jumped on those rightwing YAF chapters and even College Republicans for being politacally incorrect. As, for Bardot, she is a fine figure of a woman. I don't agree with the extent of her animal passions but Booker T. Washington was proud of American Blacks when he visited France because he saw that the French did not treat animals as well as did his "American Negros". So perhaps Bardot is correcting for some of the past neglect of her people.
How about this for the ad:
Brigitte Bardot would like to announce their conviction for telling the world that
Muslims are barbaric and cruel invaders, responsible for terrorist acts and eager to dominate the French to the extent of wanting to exterminate them.
Well, asking them to raise their hands is out of the question.
I'm supporting Brigitte. Islam is EVIL.
