Frank Rich: Abu Ghraib 'The New Watergate'
NewsMax ^ | May 21, 2004 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 05/21/2004 10:21:43 AM PDT by Kaslin

The Abu Ghraib prison abuse scandal is so bad that it may turn out to be "the new Watergate" that drives President Bush from office.

At least that's what New York Times columnist Frank Rich is hoping.

"I think for the next few months we're going to be watching this thing move up through the Pentagon and Washington," Rich told radio host Don Imus on Friday. "You know, it may be the new Watergate in that sense."

"We have to know how this was allowed to happen," the Bush-bashing columnist insisted. "Because the people who allowed it to happen in our government, in my view, have jeopardized Americans."

Of the prison abuse itself, said Rich, "It's horrible. We've lost the hearts and minds [of the Iraqi people], we've lost our allies and, of course, it's undermined support for the war within the United States."

He called complaints that that media's obsession over Abu Ghraib was hurting the troops "nonsense."

"It's exactly cause people, I think, care about the troops and care about them being endangered that people want this done right and not done with this kind of arrogance and carelessness," Rich claimed.

This says it all.

At least that's what New York Times columnist Frank Rich is hoping.

Yup.

When the left talks about it going up the chain of command...they surely mean all the way up to Bush.

If the Dims want to relive the good old days, that's fine. Abu what's-the-place is not Watergate and Kerry is unelectable. It's as simple as that. It is the Dims that will be washing this dirt off themselves for the next four years, not Bush. The Iraqi situation is improving and the Dims are on the wrong side. They've been on the wrong side from the beginning.

Abu Ghraib will not inspire terrorists, but the media's reporting of it will. The enemies of the U.S. have found an ally in the likes of Frank Rich, et al.

The Dems won't turn this loose until they get a trophy head.

Will GWB give them one?

If he does, he probably won't get reelected.
If he doesn't, they have more scandal and dirt--which they will use anyway to get another trophy head.

Nonsense it is already over, the press just does not realize it yet. It is over. It will not effect his reelection at all. It has damaged the press and the Dems, not him.

I caught part of Rich and Imus's rants this morning.

Fortunately, neither seem to understand just how wacked out THEY appeared.

Vietnam and Watergate. Vietnam and Watergate.

These guys are all trying to relive the their youth by casting everything in the mold of their glory days. It's like watching the puffy middle-aged High School quarterback drunkenly relive the winning touchdown of his last game.

To people who aren't so obsessed with the early seventies, it just looks pathetic.

"Because the people who allowed it to happen in our government, in my view, have jeopardized Americans."

The excessive investigations and reporting of it have jeopardized Americans.

He called complaints that that media's obsession over Abu Ghraib was hurting the troops "nonsense." "It's exactly cause people, I think, care about the troops and care about them being endangered that people want this done right and not done with this kind of arrogance and carelessness," Rich claimed.

Phony and false logic. The DoD, not the media is correcting this, and *already has* taken corrective action. Will Boston Globe take corrective action over their phony photos?

Used to listen to Imus..but he makes more 180's than
a gyroscope...Been for Bush for few years..now acts like he loves Kerry..when he starts pandering to the "Clymers" in
the NYTimes..he can join the nutcases, that he professes to
be an expert at...the "Rich" crowd can's stand to be shown
up and our guy..President Bush..shows them up every time
they start their ranting and raving...Vote Bush.. Jake

IMUS: "Mivvzeen, melmbum, memble, memble, bumsti, glanos!"

That's what Imus sounded like to me the whole two minutes I wasted by listening to him once.

Rich is the clown who claimed that The Passion of Christ would foment anti-semitic violence. He's living in a fantasy world. You'd think that a guy who works in a tall Manhattan building would be a little more cautious than the average guy when it comes to who he supports for President. Maybe he has a death wish.
